Page 2 Spilyay Tymoo, Warm Springs, Oregon January 7, 2015 Needed repairs at ECE building The Warm Springs Early Childhood Education build- ing has experienced some clo- sure days last week, as the Utilities Department made repairs to various aspects of the building. The boiler gas regulator had to be replaced, for in- stance, said Don Courtney, Utilities general manager. Then a pump went out, and that had to be replaced. Then the pump that cir- culates water through the building did not have ad- equate pressure, which led to an investigation as to why. Utilities found a leak un- der the administration area of the building, and repaired that. A short time later an- other leak was found outside the building, and this was re- paired. The ECE building needs to have its heat pumps re- placed, Courtney said. The building is about as old as the clinic, which had its pumps replaced on a regu- lar schedule, Courtney said. The hope to begin replac- ing the ECE pumps this year. This will be a big project, as each pump costs about $5,000. Utilities will be looking at grant opportunities, and other funding options for this project, Courtney said. ECE is a priority building for Utilities, but there are about 90 other buildings that Utilities also takes care of. WSFPI meeting with Council Monday The board and manage- ment of Warm Springs For- est Products Industries is scheduled to meet with Tribal Council on Monday, Jan. 12. WSFPI meanwhile has shut down this week due to the weather. The recent warm tempera- ture made the logging roads unusable, so the mill had shut down at least this week, said John Katchia, mill operations manager. At the meeting on Mon- day, the mill management team is planning to present Council with alternatives for the future of the mill, Katchia said. Developing alternatives for future operation can be complicated, as no one can fully predict the future con- dition of the lumber market, he said. There are over 100 em- ployees at the mill. The fi- nances of the operation, and working within the annual al- lowable cut of reservation timber, have made for hard times in recent years, in terms of profitability.
