People who are in close contact with any of these people are also encouraged to get a vaccination. Each year thousands of people die from the disease. The flu is spread mainly by people coughing or sneezing, or through close contact. Flu vaccination is rec- ommended every year. Some children 6 months to 8 years might need two doses during one year. Flu viruses are always changing. Each year’s vac- cine is made to protect against three to four vi- ruses that are likely to cause disease in the particu- lar year.
