Extension hosts students Learning Trip The Warm Springs OSU Extension office hosted the annual OSU Student Service Learning Trip in June. This year, ten students, both un- dergraduate and graduate stu- dents, participated. The itinerary this year was a little more academic. The day included guest speakers after the welcome lunch. T hank you to Tribal Councilman Orvie Danzuka for speaking about tribal government and sover- eignty; and Jefferson Greene, of Culture and Heritage, for speaking about youth and their challenges in the community. Thank you also to Val Switzler, Culture and Heri- tage director, for sharing in- formation about the language program; and to Brigette Scott for speaking about our cultural foods, and Nancy Seylor for speaking about public safety and jurisdiction on the reservation. For their service hours the students did some work in the courtyard at High Lookee. They also did some trail main- tenance at the Museum of Warm Springs, and helped around the Education Build- 4202 Holliday St. Making fry bread with the OSU Extension Learning Trip team. ing. Pi-ta Pitt and Jim Manion gave a presentation at Power and Water, followed by a tour of the dam. Frank Smith led the stu- dents on a hike at the Kah- Nee-Ta trails followed by a nice barbecue at Kah-Nee-Ta, where the students also made frybread and had a great time. Thank you Brigette Scott for donating the salmon. This is a great opportunity for students from the univer- sity to learn a little about our culture, government, and our community. Thank you Power Enter- prises and Indian Head Ca- sino for the donations. And a big thank you to all the speakers and presenters for doing such a great job.
