Oregon Senate votes down legal aid bill

15-15 to d e fea t a bill th a t
w ould have provided added
funding for legal aid organi
zations in the state.
“I t w ould have helped our
lo w e r-in c o m e trib a l m em
bers, and all o n lim ited in
com e,” said tribal G o v e rn

Pitt.
T he 14 Senate Republicans
w ere jo in e d by S c a p p o o se
D em ocrat Betsy Jo h n so n to
defeat H B 4143. T he vo te in
the H o u se earlier this year,
m oving the bill to the Senate,
was also along party lines.

The Portland Art Museum seeks an outstand
ing advanced doctoral candidate who wishes to
pursue a curatorial career In Native American art.
This unique opportunity would allow a pre-doctoral
candidate to do original research with world-class
objects working closely with the Curator of Native
American Art. The Fellow will be responsible for.
collection-related research and scholarship and will
have the opportunity to meet with scholars, mu
seum curators, and Native communities across
the United States to create a new vocabulary for
understanding Native American arts research.
Terms: The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Pre-
Doctoral Curatorial Fellow Is a full-time exempt
employee of The Portland Art Museum. The posi
tion starts In June 2014. The Fellow will receive
an annual salary of $42,500, plus research and
travel expenses related to Museum activities, and
benefits. A modest relocation stipend may be avail
able.
