Slim down is approaching

Longhouse.
T h e annual slim -dow n
challenge is set to begin this
month. The official weigh-in
dates will soon be announced.
T he M ovin’ M ountains
16-week w eight-loss chal­
lenge began in Warm Springs,
and was later expanded to
include Jefferson County.
Hundreds o f people par-
tifipate, with pay-outs going
to people who lose 5 percent
o f their weight, 10 percent,
or m ore. T he entry fee is
$25. The first-place winner
receives a fairly large cash
prize, and the com petition
can be intense.
This year is' appeared that
Warm Springs again would
be h o sting the slim -dow n
challenge on its own, as the
rest o f the county appeared
not able to participate.
But a recent development
indicates that the rest o f the
county may be able to join
W arm Springs again in the
challenge, said Tammy Wil­
son, Warm Springs commu­
nity health services manager.
The county Public Health
D epartment and at least one
commission have indicated an
interest in continuing with
M ovin’ M ountains, W ilson
said.. I f the county can se­
cure needed funding, then
