Community Foundation grant helps departments
Gathering
for support
C u ltu re and H e rita g e ,
OSU Extension and Higher
E ducation received a grant
this week from the Oregon
Community Foundation.
The $78,415 is part o f a
$205,000 total that is being
received over three years, said
Val Switzler, Culture and Heri­
tage director. Lonnie James
o f the C om m unity A ction
Team presented the grant to
the departments earlier this
week.
The grant is used to ex­
pand and improve culturally-
based out-of-school time cur­
riculum for Native American
students. The full name o f the
grant is: T he k-12 Student
Success: Out-of-School Time

from Oregonians who have
cre a te d th e ir ow n fu n d s,
housed at the Oregon Com­
munity Fund.
The fund started 39 years
ago with a $63,000 contribu­
tion. The fund now has $1.5
billion in assets.

build a support system

on resources for tribal

The Warm Springs Boys
and Girls Club will be open
M onday th ru Friday from
3:15 to 5:30pm.

hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The club will be closed on des­
ignated tribal holidays, reduc­
tion in work hour days and
during inclement weather de­
lays or closures.

Program invites middle and
high school age boys and girls
to take part in a youth lead­
ership event on Wednesday,
Dec. 18 at 5:15 p.m. at Com­
munity Counseling.
Youth involved will build
lead ersh ip and team w ork
skills, plan community activi­
ties and take part in incen­
tive field trips and youth con­

Holiday gift making hosted by Counseling

nity Counseling is hosting
holiday gift making classes
this week.
There will be classes on
Thursday and Friday, Dec.
12 and 13, at. the Fam ily
Resource Center.
The Thursday class is from
2 to 5 p.m., and the Friday
class will be from 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m.
D ue to the tribal budget
situation, many people are
struggling financially. T he
classes are a chance to get
together and make gifts for
family members.
Community Counseling is
accepting donations o f craft
and volunteer teachers.
