School board, members discuss Impact Aid
T h e J e f fe rs o n C o u n ty
School D istrict 509-J has re
ceived only 45 percent o f the
Im pact Aid funding for the
2012-13 school year.
Usually by this time in the
year, the district would have
received up to 85 percent o f
th e fu n d in g , said R ick
Molitor, superintendent.
Holding up the transfer o f
the funds to the district is the
federal fiscal cliff situation:
U nsure o f their upcom ing
budget, federal officials are
h o ld in g th e Im p a c t A id
m oney until it is clear how
much will eventually be trans
ferred, Molitor said.
The am ount o f money is
large for the district: The to
tal Im pact Aid payment ex
pected for 2012-13 is $2.4
million. This represents about
25 teaching positions.
This news came during the
school district Im pact Aid
meeting in Warm Springs on
Monday. O n a more positive
note, M olitor said, there- is
some indication that the dis
trict could receive 70 percent
o f Im pact Aid funds in the
near future.
Federal Im pact Aid assists
U.S. school districts that see
reduced property tax revenue
due to the presence o f tax-
exempt property such as In
dian reservations. In oth er
