Leadership Corner
A message from Rick lllolitor
Superintendent
As we transition back from Thanksgiving, I
can’t help but reflect on how fortunate I feel to
work in a community that values and supports
education. Your vote to pass the recent school
bond gave our district team a renewed sense
of hope and encouragement. This dedicated
team of educators and staff is working hard
during tough financial and political times. They
are doing more with less and it shows as we continue to see
improvements in student achievement.
l am particularly thankful to share that we recently reached
an agreement on a new contract for our teachers. The School
Board approved the contract this week and was happy to be
able to provide modest financial increases to all of our dedicated
employees. One of our biggest challenges has been to protect
a reserve budget that will allow us to maintain programs,
staffing levels and supportive employee contracts in the face
of future budget challenges. That said, I’d like to thank all of
our employees for their participation and cooperation during
negotiations this year.
As we move into 2013, we need input from parents, families
and community members to help us with the planning and
construction funded by the school bond. There will be many
opportunities for you to hear what’s going on and tell us your
thoughts as well. Please take the time to attend some of the
upcoming community meetings so we can hear from you. You
are also welcome to get in touch with me any time for more
information.
Thank you again for helping to make JCSD a better place for
our children to learn. I wish you all a happy and safe winter.
