WS. saw big turnout on election day
Four-hundred and seventy
voters in Jefferson County
precinct 14, which includes
most of the. Warm Springs
Reservation, cast ballots in
the November 6 general elec­
tion.,
Tribal voters went strongly
for Pres. Obama, who re­
ceived 399 of the local votes,
to Gov. Romney’s 57. -
The Warm Springs pre­
cinct supported Joyce Segers,
Democrat, for U.S. Represen­
tative. She received 261 lo­
cal votes, to Republican Rep.
Greg Walden’s 185. Walden
won re-election by an overall
vote of 5,448 to 2,187.
On a local measure, Pre­
cinct 14 supported the Ma­
dras Aquatic Center opera­
tion levy. The rest o f the
county rejected the p ro ­
posal, which failed by 350
votes.
The state measures regard­
ing private casinos— mea­
sures 82 and 83-—were
soundly rejected by reserva­
tion voters. The Precinct 14
vote on Measure 82 (allow­
ing private casinos) was 438
against and 30 in favor.
The Precinct 14 vote on
was rejected in Precinct 14,
county-wide and statewide.

Kate Brown for Secretary of
State, w ith 358 votes to
Knute Buehler’s 72. Jefferson
County overall supported
Buehler. Brown won state­
wide.
The Warm Springs pre­
cinct supported Ted Wheeler
for state T reasurer, T he
county overall supported his
opponent, Tom Cox. Wheeler
won re-election.
For Oregon Attorney Gen­
eral, Precinct 14 supported
Ellen Rosenblume, who re­
ceived 370 reservation votes
to James Buchal’s 50 votes.
The county overall supported
Buchal. Rosenblume won the
statewide vote.
State Sen. Ted Ferrioli re­
ceived 300 votes in Precinct
14. He ran unopposed and
was re-elected.
The Warm Springs pre­
cinct su p p o rted Gary
Ollerenshaw for state repre­
sentative. The county overall
su p p o rted
Rep. Jo h n
Huffman, who won re-elec­
tion.

The Museum at Warm Springs will host the.Na­
tive American Heritage Art Market on Novem­
ber 24, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration is open
to the first 25 vendors. Priority will be given to
local tribal artisans. Half spaces are available.

The Annual Warm Springs:
Christmas Bazaar is coming
up on Saturday, Dec. 8.
The bazaar, offering
unique hand-crafted gifts, will
be from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. at
the Warm Springs Commu­
nity Center.

Car Light Parade, tree
lighting later this month

the Car Light Parade and
Christmas Tree Lighting on
Thursday, Nov. 29.
The Car Light Parade
line-up will be at the Warm
Springs Elementary School
at 6 p.m. Judging will be at
6:30, and the parade starts
at 7. The Christmas Tree
Lighting and caroling will
begin at 7:30 p.m. at the
Community Center.
Family Fun Night
Native Aspirations will
present the Family Fun
Night,
Bring the family and
make some Christm as
crafts together.
This will be from 7:30-
9 p.m. in the Community
Center gym.

Aid hearing Dec. 10
A public meeting in
Warm Springs o f the
Jefferson County School
District 509-J Board of
Directors is now sched­
uled for December.
This meeting will'be a
chance to discuss the Im­
pact Aid application for
financial year 2014, and
other matters relating to
Impact Aid.
The meeting will be
held at 6 p.m. on Mon­
day, Dec. 10 in the library
of the Warm Springs El­
ementary School.
The district annually
affords its patrons, spe­
cifically Native American
patents and guardians, the
opportunity to offer com­
ments and make recom­
mendations relative to the
application for and the use
of Impact Aid funds.
