Head Start term starting
A t the
Jamboree
Warm Springs Head Start
is beginning the fall term this
week.
O rientation for full-day
students was on Tuesday.
For part-day students, Orien­
tation is today, beginning at 8
a.m. and continuing to 5 p.m.
As temperatures reach­
ed near 100 degrees, kids
were drawn to the Com­
munity Center field by a
towering rock wall, color­
ful air inflated play struc­
tures, and the hillside wa­
ter slide.
The Jam boree is and
annual event coordinated
by the Warm Springs Rec­
reation Department, and is
a day o f play that many
kids in Warm Springs look
forw ard to. Volunteers
help to monitor all of the
activities to ensure safety
and keep the fun going.
The first day of school for
full-day students is this
Wednesday, Sept. 5. The first
day of school for part-day is
Thursday, Sept. 6.

Powwow at Deer Ridge
state prison this Saturday
The Native American
inmates at the Deer Ridge
Correctional' Institution
will host their Second An­
nual Powwow on Saturday,
Sept. 8. Grand entry at 9
a.m., so guests should ar­
rive at 8.

The Native inmates at
D eer Ridge are inviting
dancers and drummers to
attend the event. They will
have fry bread and Indian
tacos, and a giveaway. A
hand-drum special is open
to all singers.
GED classes start soon
The Central Oregon Com­
munity College basic skills
classes for the GED 2012 fall
quarter begin on Monday,
Sept. 24.
T he classes continue
through Thursday, Dec. 13.
There will be no class on Oct.
8, and Nov. 6,12, 22 and 23.
Registration is during the
first class on Sept. 24, and on
Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Indian Head Casino will
host a motorcycle poker
run this Friday, Sept. 7
from 3-7 p.m.
The outside event will
feature live music and a
barbeque with food for
purchase.
The outdoor barbeque
will be served from 11
a.m. to 7 p.m. in the west
parking lot.
The band Sagebrush
Rock (right) will perform
outdoors from 3-7 p.m.
The event is open to all
ages along with a desig­
nated 21 and over area.
Registration and the start
of the poker run will be at
the Deschutes County Fair
and Expo Center at the In­
dian Head Casino booth be­
ginning at 11 a.m.
Cost is $5 per hand. Kick
stands will be up at 1 p.m.
and the poker run will be
about 75 miles.
Guests not participating in
the poker run can buy a hand
to support the event from 3
to 4 p.m. at the casino.
Proceeds from the In­
dian Head Casino poker
run will benefit the Warm
Springs veterans and
youth organizations.
Indian Head Casino is
the title sponsor of the
Run to the Cascades Mo­
torcycle Rally to be held
at the Deschutes County
Fair and Expo this Friday
and Saturday, Sept. 7-8.
Admission to the event
at the. Deschutes County
Fair & Expo Center is $15
a day, $25 weekend and
free for kids 12 and un­
