E Coosh EEWA: The W3y it is
“Funky ”
Water
By Duran Bobb
Recently, residents o f the
Sunnyside neigh b o rh o o d
have noticed a peculiar smell
and taste to their tap water.
Some have described it as
muddy-tasting
and “ funky.”
Spilyay
There was one

cloudy water.
Residents from Dry Creek
and Greeley Heights have
also noticed a strange taste.
People are beginning to won
der if the water is still safe to
drink.
“T he w ater is safe to
drink,” Roy Spino, manager
for the water treatment plant,
said.
The Deschutes River is
experiencing an algae bloom.
“It’s hard to tell what causes
this,” he said. “It could be
the temperature o f the wa
ter, the river warming up.”
Workers at the plant be
came aware of the problem
several weeks ago, and in
creased chlorine levels. Later,
a carbon filter was put in place
at the water treatment facil
ity, and carbon was added to
the water.
“We’re running a few more
tests on the water,” Spino
said. “We’re hoping the taste
and odor hasn’t hit the agency
area yet.”
The next step in fighting
the problem will be to flush
the system. This will involve
about a week of work with
the fire hydrants around the
community. Volume will be
forced through the system in
an attempt to clear out the
taste.
The water treatment plant
was built in 1982 and was
meant to last for 30 years, so
it is operating beyond its peak
capacity.
• The treatment plant is in
need o f several upgrades, if
not a replacement. Workers
are able to maintain the plant,
however special parts must
be ordered.
“That can cost an arm and
a leg,” Spino said. “But that’s
what you have to deal with
when you can’t get the parts
over-the-counter.”
TOE NESS...
Spilyay and Tila are going
through old pictures. “Those
were the days! I didn’t care
about things like w hat to
wear. My parents dressed
me.”
“Well by the looks of these
pics, it’s obvious they didn’t
care either!” YIKES!

Apologies
Marijuana is a plant that
is illegal. I got caught with
some recently, and it is bad
because you won’t get any
thing out of smoking it. And
it is also bad for your lungs.
The only thing you get out of
smoking weed is trouble. It is
bad for me also because it
keeps me back from doing
things I want to do in life. I
just want to say sorry for hav

I am writing this to apolo

Police Department. It’s been
a whole year since domestic
violence was part o f my re
lationship with my lady. I am
not saying that with pride and
joy. When I think about my
actions back in April 2011,1
feel ashamed, embarrassed,
guilty. N ot only those feelings,
I also look at what could have
happened due to my actions.
Somebody could have been
seriously hurt or even worse.
Now I am going to pay for
the consequences. Since this
has happened I’ve learned to
control my alcohol use, deal
with my problems in a posi
tive way. Looking at how do
mestic violence could impact
people’s lives in just a blink
of an eye is scary, especially
if children are involved. I’ve

There was a Sasquatch sighting in the West Hills
area recently. “I found footprints in my backyard
about June 8, after it rained,” commented Warm
Springs artistTravis Bobb, who made this drawing
of the Kushtaa (River Devil).
“It might be the same creature that made
footprints in the garden by the administration
building,” Bobb said.
