T he Warm Springs Cougars
Youth Basketball O rganization
will host the Twentieth Annual
tourney this Friday-Saturday,
April 6-8, at the W arm Springs
C o m m u n ity C e n te r g y m n a­
sium.
Twelve boys teams, and eight
girls teams will compete. Awards
are given in each division.
G irls division aw ards are
championship wool jackets; run­
ner-up hooded sweatshirts; third-
place crewnecks; fo u rth -p la c e
t-shirts; M ost Valuable player
jacket; All-Tourney crewnecks;
Miss Hustie, and Miss Rebound.
Boys d ivision aw ards are
championship lettermans jack­
ets; runnerup hoo d ed sweat­
shirts; third-place crewnecks;
fourth-place t-shirts; Most Valu­
able Player jacket; All Tourney

bullying prevention.
Youth soccer sign-ups
Local youth can sign-up to
play in the Jefferson County
Youth Soccer league. Registra­
tion forms are available at the
Je fferso n C ounty L ibrary in
Madras.
Team space is limited, so par­
ents should register their kids as
soon as possible.
Floyd Calica is a coach o f
one o f the teams. “I would like
to see a whole team from Warm
Springs,” he said. “I coached
five o f our tribal youth (last
year) who did great. O ur kids
have some real potential play­
ing soccer.”
T he game, he said, builds
team work and endurance, and
teaches the youth a worldwide
sport.
Cleats, shin guards and goalie
gloves are highly recommended
for league play, to prevent sprain
ankles and injuries Jto the shin.

The Saturday events in­
clude the following:
Pony Express race (7-12
years; and 13-17); calf riding
(7-12 years); cow riding (13-
17); barrel racing (6 and
under, 7-12, and 13-17), flag
racé (divisions same as bar­
rels), dummy roping (6 years
and under), horseless roping
(12 years an d u n d er),
breakaway roping (17 and
under); also,
C hute doggin (17 years
and under), calf scramble 12
and under; stick horse race,
5 years and under; wild colt
race (two divisions: 12 and
under, 13-17 years).
Entry fee for the wild colt
race is $30 per team; entry
fee for other events is $10.
Sunday events are as fol­
lows:
O pen Pony Express race;
buckskin horse riding, bare-
back riding, Saddle bronc, or
Wild Ride.
Cow riding, calf roping,
ladies and boys (15 and un­
der) breakaway roping, team
roping (enter twice, entry fee
$60 team).
Ribbon roping (one male,
one female), open barrel rac­
ing, junior barrel racing (13
years and under, $10. entry);
Wild Horse race, open; wild
colt race (12 years and un­

team).

The Kah-Nee-Ta Mini Mjara-
thon is scheduled for Sunday,
April 22. The scheduled race
distances are going to be the
14.5 mile, 10k, 5k and the 1-
mile fun run/walk,
Registration will begin at 8
a.m. at the K N T village front
gate. The bus for the 14.5 mile
run will load runners and leave
the village front gate at 8:30 a.m.
sharp.
The 14.5 mile run begins in
Simnasho at 9 a.m., and other
races to begin at 10 a.m. from
the village front gate.
Awards given to the top three
finishers in the male and female
divisions in all age categories.
D oor prize for which every
registered runner will be given
a ticket, as well as free entry
pass into the Kah-Nee-Ta Vil­
lage Pool.
Pre-registration fee: $12 with
t-shirt; $80 w ithout t-shirt.
Day o f race fee: $15 with t-
shirt; $10 without.
