ing class. A person showing up
late, or showing signs o f intoxi
cation, will be excluded. Must
be 18 or over. N o drivers li
cense required.
Anyone who completes the
class will be registered as quali
fied for camp crew duty during
fire season.
Fire Management expects to
have four to seven crews, plus
a crew each with W E D D and
Forestry, for up to nine total.
Each crew has ten people.
“ We’re looking to employ as
many tribal m em bers as p o s
sible,” said William Wilson, as
sistant Fire Management officer,
logistics.
The total number employed
will depend on the severity o f
the fire season, Wilson said. Also,
he added, there are a num ber
o f other camp crews being or
ganized in the N orthw est, so
competition for the work this
year is high.
To attend the Fire Manage
ment training course this spring,
a person will need photo identi
fication and a Social Security
number. These are required in
order for the participant to be
paid for the class.

gency 20-person fire crew for
the 2012 season.
The purpose for this crew is
to su p p le m e n t th e local
fire fig h tin g crew s at W arm
Springs Agency in the event o f
fires o ccu rrin g h ere locally.
Large-fire occurrence has been
m ore prevalent in the last 10
years and the near future out
look remains at a high potential
for re-occurrence.
O ur local fire season usually
begins in July and runs through
September. I f we get enough
eligible individuals interested in
participating in this program, we
will be offering the basic fire
training for any individual 18
years old and up to be available
for the 2012 fire season.

youth activities. Here is the

Fire Management for the
past several years has p ro
vided the training, and fielded
camp crews that have helped
fight fires around the N orth
west.
To qualify to w ork at a
camp crew, a person m ust
c o m p lete th e e ig h t-h o u r
course, offered at Fire Man
agement. The courses are
tentatively set for late April
to early May.
There is a limit o f 25 par
ticipants per class; The seats

are certified to go out on the
fire line.
Fire crew requirem ents are
as follows:
Pass the arduous three-mile
walk with a 45-pound pack un
der 45 minutes. (The participant
must pass this test before they
can take the basic fire courses.)
Pass S-130, S-190, 1-100, L-
180 courses.
Attend the full week o f train
ing without missing any part o f
the courses being presented in
order to receive credit for all re
quired courses.
Pass drug test.
Stay physically fit throughout
the fire season.
H ave a reliab le p air o f
vibram sole boots before report
ing for fire duty.

ment out to the public once we
establish the agenda.
Individuals w ho are in ter
ested in participating in this pro
gram are encouraged to start
some type o f physical fitness
p ro g ram b e fo re tak in g th e
three-mile pack test. Each indi
vidual will only get to do the
pack test two times in one fire
season.
