Support staff vote to

Jefferson County School Dis

the Oregon School Employees
Association Chapter 54 have
ratified a three-year contract
agreement with the district’s
school board that includes no
pay raises next school year, of
ficials announced M onday
night.
“In a noble effort to support
local students during difficult
economic times, the group has
agreed to work the next school
year without salary increases,”
the joint news release stated.
OSEA represents school sup
port staff including clerical, edu
cational assistants, custodians,
nutrition services employees and
maintenance and transportation
workers.
According to leadership from
OSEA and the JCSD 509-J, ne
gotiations were primarily col
laborative and amicable. District

with the overall process and the
professionalism demonstrated
by the classified union represen
tatives.
“Our classified staff demon
strated a remarkable commit-
. m ent to our students and
schools with the ratification of
this three-year contract,” said
Rick Molitor, superintendent for
JCSD. “They really stepped up
to support our students during
challenging economic times.”
The contract was ratified
with a large majority vote in fa
vor o f the agreement by the
chapter m em bership. Bob
Bradetich, OSEA field represen
tative attributes the successful
negotiations to the OSEA mem
bers’ understanding o f the cur
rent economic hardships.
“This agreement allows us tp
move forward and continue to
provide the students o f the dis
trict with the services and sup
port necessary to assist in their
educational process,” said
