Martinez said. “I t pleases me
to see so many people at our
new casino. I thank our tribal
leaders for their vision.”
W ithin minutes, the casino
and museum overflow parking
lots were full.
Officials began guiding guests
to the Community Center park
ing lot. Shuttles that night were
busy.
A fine o f traffic began form
ing east on highway 26.
O D O T assisted with reader-
boards along highway 26, signs
that read “E vent Ahead” and
cones.
A t 7 p.m. the C om m unity
Center parking was filled to ca
pacity.
Traffic was then directed to
the administration parking lot.
Thirty-six minutes later, officials
had to plan to start using the
Longhouse parking lot.
The occupancy limit for the
new casino is 1,780 individuals.
“But it’s hard to keep track as
people come and go,” Martinez
said.
Inside, guests who appEed for
a Players Club card received a
souvenir - a T-shirt, hat or a mug.
N ext door, Vesta Johnson’s
cafe was booming. ‘W e’re very
b lessed a n d v ery th an k fu l!
We’re so proud o f our tribe to
day!”
Nearby, at Kah-Nee-Ta, the
room s quickly fiEed. Country
artist Terri Clark performed.
“Every single ticket was sold,”
Carlos Smith said. ‘W e ran a
buffet for dinner, and the lounge
was packed. It was great to work
with the casino to make this aE
happen.”
“We wanted to do a lot o f
things...with limited funds, we did
aE we could, knowing the p o
tential that exists to add on at a
later date,” CouncEman Scott
Moses said. “This was a huge
team effort aE the way around.”
The day after, on Super Bowl
Sunday, the parking lot was stiE
fidl.
S ev en ty -y ear-o ld R o d g er
CaldweE sat near the entrance.
“GambEng is Eke a hobby for
me,” he said. “This is one o f
the nicer casinos I ’ve been to
so far. It shows culture and the
employees are nice! I’E be back.”

representatives o f the regional
BIA Office, the Columbia River
Inter-Tribal Fish Commission,
and Tribal CouncE Vice-Chair

Wanapum Canoe FamEy as this
program and its ambitious goals
grow and evolve,” said K eith
H atch, BIA, Portland Office.
“Safety on the water doesn’t just
