Leadership Corner
fl message from Rick molitor
Superintendent
Welcome to winter! We’re off
to a great start in 2012 and I’d
like to thank our JCSD 509-J families, community mem
bers, teachers, staff and students for their on-going support
and involvement. As many of you know, a group of local
community members has been working hard to review our
district facility needs and possible funding sources.
The District-wide Facility Planning Committee will be
making a recommendation to the school board by the end
of this month and we will be providing you with updates
on their progress and recommendations as we learn more.
This process is important to our schools and students and
we feel fortunate to have such a dedicated group of com
munity members involved.
The following facility projects are currently being
evaluated:
Construction of a new K-8 school building in Warm Springs
Construction of a performing arts center
Madras High School students who want to take an elective class, but can’t
program it into their schedule can now take it after school. The new Q3 Ex
tended Day offers a variety of elective classes on Tuesday and Thursday after
noons from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Classes begin on February 7th and run through
April 12th. Students may register for one of the classes below by submitting a
completed registration form to their counselor. The form must be signed by the
student’s parent or guardian. In order to provide these elective classes, there must
be a minimum number of students signed up.
The Warm Springs activity bus will be available to students who attend elec
tive classes for the entire period. Students who participate in Q3 Extended Day
will also have the opportunity to earn a credit towards graduation based on their
individual attendance, participation, and proficiency.

and desires as well. Please join us on the 30th.

Please contact your school office if
you need to add or change your contact

It's Testing Time Again
We are beginning our second round
of student testing and we want to re
mind parents and families to help and
support their students as they prepare
and participate in the OAKS, DIBELS
and STARS assessments. Ask your stu
dent about their tests and how they are
feeling about them.
Please make sure your children are
getting plenty of rest, eating healthy
foods and setting aside time to study,
prepare and do homework.
