Springs responded to a struc
ture fire on the B-100 Road
in Sidw alter just before 3
p.m. Monday afternoon. The
home of Gloria Warner was
engulfed in flam es and
burned to the ground.
“I was laying on the couch,
and it sounded like something
hit the side of the house,”
neighbor Nena Danzuka said.
“Then I heard it again, louder.
I got up and came to the
door and thought ‘Oh, my God!
Not again!’”
F irefig h ters b attled the
flames with multiple engines, as
enormous explosions split the
air.
“It’s terrible,” Danzuka said,
watching in the biting cold wind.
“She’s been through a run of
bad luck lately, both of us have.”
Warner lost her husband on
May 20, when his vehicle left
highw ay 26 and crashed 12
m iles east o f G overnm ent
Camp.
“Over the summer, the
(wild) fire came pretty close to
our homes,” Danzuka said.
“We had to run. It’s like her
house was saved just to burn
down later.”
All occupants of the house
evacuated before the call was
made to Warm Springs dis
patch. “She lived there with
three boys who cut her
wood,” Danzuka said.
