Benson Heath, August 19, 1947-August 19, 2011
B enson H eath passed
away on August 19, 2011.
He had just turned 64.
Benson was born near
Sim nasho on A ugust 19,
1947 to p a ren ts C h ie f
N athan and L illie Heath.
He was one of eleven chil­
dren.
He attended bo ardin g
school in Warm Springs, and
then Madras High School.
A fter graduating, Benson
moved to San Francisco for
a time.
He returned to Oregon
and attended Eastern Or-
egon
U n iv ersity
in
LaGrande.
After graduating, Benson
took the job of Personnel di­
rector of the Confederated
Tribes o f W arm Springs.
This was a difficult job at
times. His policy in resolving
disputes was to always go by the
Personnel rules of the tribes.
He stayed at the job until
earlier this year.
Mr. Heath served a num­
ber of terms on the Warm
Springs Power and Water
Enterprises Board of Direc­
tors. He served on the board
during negotiations w ith
PGE resulting in the tribes
acquiring part ownership of
the Pelton-Round Butte hy­
dro facilities.
Benson was a great fan of
Madras High School sports,
and attended the basketball,
football and other games. He
was a great fan of the Or­
egon Ducks.
Mr. Heath is survived by
two daughters, Violet Heath
and Julia Heath; and brother
Chief Delvis Heath, and sis­
ters Nola Queahpama and
Sandra Heath.
Antunez sentenced to 15 years for shooting

tried to serve an arrest war­
rant. He began shooting and
they returned fire, injuring
him.
No law enforcement of­
ficers were injured.
