The fires burned
mostly in grass and range-
land areas. The N atural
Resources Branch is as
sessing the extent of the
reservation tim ber that
burned. As of Tuesday of
this week, the High Cas
cades Complex fires were
reported to be about 60
percent contained, said
Fire Chief Martinez.
There are many people
and organizations, he said,
that were o f great help
during the fires. The State
Fire Marshall’s Office, he
said, was o f great help,
sending several task forces
to the reservation. Crews
arrived mostly from Or
egon, Washington, Idaho
and Montana. Some were
from farther away, such as
New Mexico and Arizona.
Orlando Doney, 1963-2011
Orlando D oney passed
away on August 12, 2011,
after a hard fought battle
w ith cancer. He had just
turned 48.
His child ren are Sara
Starr, Jerem y Starr Doney,
Dennis Starr and Chezeray
Starr. His grandchildren are
Tyree and “Boogie.” His com
panion was Lenora Starr.
He worked for the Con
federated Tribes of Warm
Springs Natural Resources
Branch as a fisheries techni
cian for 10-plus years pro
tecting the salmon.
His favorite pasttime was
volunteering at the radio sta
tion and playing stickgame.
He learned to play stickgame
when he became compan
ions with Lenora Starr.
He generously gave smiles,
made people laugh and for
gave easily.
Even as a patient in the
hospital, he was quick to of
fer a prayer for other patients
or joke with the staff.
He will be missed.
We would like to thank the

Windy Harvey, 29, of Warm
Springs, entered a guilty plea on
August 29 to voluntary man
slaughter.
Harvey, who remains in fed
eral custody, was ordered to
appear for sentencing on Nov.
16. The plea agreement in the
case calls for the defendant to
be sentenced to 10 years in
prison.
The manslaughter incident
happened on August 15, 2008.

On that day, shortly after
m idnight, the Warm Springs
Police Department responded to
a call of a shooting at a home
in Warm Springs.
The police arrived at the resi
dence and found that Warren
Wallulatum Jr., had been fatally
shot.
Witnesses reported to police
that H arvey shot and killed
Wallulatum after an argument
broke out between the two men.
Harvey, who had initially fled
the scene, turned himself in to
the Warm Springs Police Depart
ment later in the day. Both the
defendant and the victim were
enrolled members of the Con
federated Tribes.
The case was investigated by
Warm Springs Police D epart
ment, the FBI’s office in Bend.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Scott
Kerin and Craig Gabriel pros
ecuted the case.
