The customers, he said, like
the new decor, and the menu.
The menu is in the style of a
family diner, but also includes
traditional favorites such as fry
bread and Indian tacos, and elk
and buffalo burgers.
Eagle Crossing, is open from
6 a.m. to midnight, Monday
Dec. 5, when the Eagle Cross
ing Restaurant opened for busi
ness.
The restaurant, formerly the
Deschutes Crossing, had been
closed for about a year.

modeled and renovated the res
taurant.

through Saturday, and 7 a.m. to
10 p.m. on Sunday. Eagle Cross
ing will be closed on Christmas
Day.
Eventual plans for the restau
rant include an outdoor deck
that faces the river, for custom
ers’ enjoyment during warmer
months.

Spotlight on Academic Achievement

Each year, the Oregon Department of Education
publishes report cards for school districts
throughout the state rating reading and math test
results, test participation and attendance data. This
year's results were presented in a new format using
a three-level system of Outstanding, Satisfactory or
Need of Improvement. In previous years, five
rankings of Exceptional, Strong, Satisfactory, Low
or Unacceptable were used.
Three of our schools (Metolius Elementary, Warm
Springs Elementary and Jefferson County Middle
School) received "satisfactory" ratings. Two of our
schools (Buff Elementary and Madras High School)
dropped from a “low” rating to "in need of
improvement." Big Muddy School, as a small
school, and Madras Elementary, now a K-2 school,
do not receive a rating. We know we have some
serious challenges and that change won't happen
overnight, but we also see some remarkable
potential and opportunity in our schools. We've
made some significant changes toward improving
our academic achievement and I am confident that
we will start to see results. With help from our
passionate, dedicated district teams and support
from our families and communities, we believe our
diverse and talented students can reach their
potential.

alternative learning options;

PBS stands for positive behavior support. This is the third year 509-J
bus drivers have participated in this program. The program includes
clearly teaching behavior expectations, using consistent progressive
steps of discipline, and best of all, recognizes and celebrates those who
are making safe, respectful, and responsible choices while
riding the bus. Free bowling passes, free swim passes, and free
Outpost bucks are giving us significant ways to say thank you to our
