2009 by an extended illness.
Renita was* bo rn on D e

Renita was a lifelong resi
dent o f W arm Springs and
an enrolled m em ber o f the
C o n fe d e ra te d T rib e s o f
W arm Springs. She gradu-

In 2005, th e A rm y re
versed the earlier decision,
and Mr. Yahtin received an
honorable discharge; and he
finally received the medals he
had earned in Korea: a K o
rean Campaign Ribbon with
five battle stars, a K orean
D efense Medal, and certifi
ca te s h o n o rin g his tw o
Purple Hearts.
A fter his experience in
Korea, Mr. Yahtin settled in
Simnasho. H e was married,
and fathered 13 children.
H e had many grandchil
dren and g reat-g ran d ch il
dren , Mr. Y ahtin w o rk ed
ated from Madras High School.
O n March 31,1985 she mar
ried G ene H arvey Sr. at the
W arm Springs Baptist Church.
Renita was a homemaker and
m other w ho enjoyed catderides
and horses. She played softball
and was fond o f basket and
beadwork.
She was also a good seam
stress. She loved her family and
was involved with the 4-H dance
group for the youth. She partici
pated with Eva M ontee on the
Bravettes Marching Team.
She is survived by her

1932 to M argaret and Alec

peacefully in h er sleep on
Monday, June 1, 2009 after a
long batde with health issues.

nurse. She and Mark settled
in W arm Springs, where she
worked as a Registered N urse
for the Indian H ealth Service
at the clinic, and he worked
at the BIA Roads D e p a rt
m e n t. T h ey lived o n th e
Warm Springs Indian reserva
tion for 35 years and raised
five children there.
I n 1979 Millie and Mark
both retired from governm ent
service and moved to Spokane.
Millie was a person w ho gave
generously to others. She gave.
everything she could to h er
work, tending to the sick. She
was a dedicated nurse and pub
lic servant.
Millie graduated from D ea
coness N ursing School in Sep
tem ber o f 1942 and became a
licensed Registered N urse in
California, O regon, and Wash
ington. She worked to improve
the working conditions and sta
tus o f nurses and was a m em
b er o f several nursing policy
boards.
Millie’s tendency to take in
the fo rg o tte n an d displaced
people in her comm unity was
one o f her greatest strengths.
Millie underwent open heart
surgery in July o f 2008 and af
terwards, recovered successfully
from her surgery, and began the
long road towards health. She
contracted pneum onia in late
February o f this year and never
quite recovered.
Millie is survived by her sons

Wellpinit, W ashington, and
E d Nicodemus, o f Spokane;
a n d d a u g h te rs, M egan
Nicodemus o f Spokane, and
Emily Cornelius o f Seatde.
She has eight grandchildren:
Gary Nicodem us and Alyse
N icodem us o f J o h n Day;
Lyda Nicodemus-Young o f
Airway Heights; Mindy Flett
o f Wellpinit; Jacob H arding
and Joseph H arding o f Spo
kane; M arcus H ard in g o f
Worley, Idaho, and Samuel
H arding o f Wellpinit. She
has several nieces and neph
ews, grandnieces and neph
ews and num erous friends
located all over the N o rth
west.
Millie was an example o f
how generous and giving a
person should be. She was a
loving, devoted mother, wife,
and grandmother. She was
also a good and loyal friend
to many o f us with a sense
o f hum or that she would use
to lift our spirits and ease our
sorrow during hard times.
