Letters to the Editor
A thank you
I believe in the power of
prayer! Those words come from
the heart and I do believe them.
It was proven to me when I had
an aneurysm on December 19
and was given a 10 percent
change o f “majdng it.” I also
suffered a heart attack and
fought with a bout o f pneumo
nia.
I am so blessed to have so
many people care about me and
pray for me to pull through.
There were many people who
prayed for me and showed their
love and support to my family.
I appreciate all of it!
There are so many people to
thank, I hope I get all of you.
First and foremost my family:
Gary, Monica, Gary III, Jordan,
Arrita, Jeston, Trey, Ina, Mom,
D ad, Earlynne, CR, Sammi,
Terry and Gladys, Vernon and
Ladonna, Amanda, Teri Jo, John,
Edison and Destry, they were all
with me when I was in ICU.

I know sometimes words just
aren’t enough to express how
truly thankful I am to each and
every person who was there and
supported my family emotion
ally, physically and through
prayer. Together my family has
seen firsthand just how truly
powerful prayer is, I am proof
of that. It’s now time for me to
get on with my life and to get a
new outlook on life. Thank you
again for being there in my time
o f need. I apologize if I have
left anyone out, it is not inten
tional but just know that I am
thankful.

This goes out to my friend
who has always showed me love.
When I just felt like visiting,
you’re the first one I’d think of.
I could never just pass your
house, when I’d be walking that
way.
Because no matter how I was
feeling, you could always
brighten my day. I’m going to
miss the way you spoke the
truth and always stayed real. It
never bothered me to hear ex
actly how you feel.
You probably already know
where I am, the only place that
stops me from coming by when
I can. I was just talking about
who I ’m going to see when I’m
released. Then someone said,
“I ’m sorry but your friend is
deceased.”

Greetings family, friends, and
community members.
My nam e is Laurie S.
Danzuka and I am a candi
date for a seat on the
Jefferso n County School
Board.
I am asking for your sup
port so please cast your bal
lot for me in the upcoming
election for school board
position one.
Registered voters who re
side in Wasco County, but are
within the Jefferson County
School Service District (i.e.
Simnasho) are eligible to vote
for the Jefferson County
school board positions.
I have been active in edu
cation issues for many years,
mainly through Head Start,
but now I serve on the Warm
Springs Tribal E ducation
Committee as the vice-chair.
T his has allow ed me to
broaden the areas I am in
volved in.
Some o f the areas I am
now active in are the school
district level (K-12), higher
education services, and adult
education.
Prior to this my involve
ment with the school was di
rectly with the teachers and
classroom as a parent, but
now iny participation has ex
tended to the broader issues
involved at the administrative
level.
Current focus issues while
serving on the Education
Committee are: improving
communication with parents
and im proving parent in
volvement, the student tran
sition, and the budget issues
for the district.
First, improving commu
nication with parents and
serving as their advocate is
very im p o rta n t in the
schools, because that is a way
to increase their participation

two. I have hoped to not ever
write a letter to the people of
the tribes but would like .to say
in their child’s education. If
parents are aware o f the
classroom lesson plans, they
can reinforce those at home
to improve their child’s re
tention. This will build a posi
tive foundation between the
parent and the teacher so
they are both aware o f what
is going on with that child.
P arent involvem ent in
their child’s education and
structure at school is essen
tial for that child to be suc
cessful.
Second, the student tran
sition from the elementary
school to middle school is
critical and an area that re
quires immediate action.
I support the looping of
teachers between the schools
to help students • maintain
continuity in service and re
tain attendance and academic
levels achieved at the elemen
tary level.
It is also important to sup
port those students develop
ment for the transition to
high school by ensuring that
they are at the academic lev
els to stay on track for gradu
ation.
Lastly, the budget is a valid
concern due to the statewide
budget constraints.
There are additional im
pact aid stimulus funds that
the district can apply for, es
pecially since the Johnson
O ’Malley funding is uncer
tain.
The staff, tutoring, and
other services provided by
these funds are essential to
students in need and must
not be sacrificed.
These school district is
sues are and will continue to
be my priority in order to
provide our children with a
quality education.
This will in turn allow
them to attend college, vo
cational school, or obtain
gainful employment and be
responsible, productive citi
zens.
My experience and
knowledge will enable me to
assist at the school district
level in cooperation with oth
ers to be a successful mem
ber on the Jefferson County
School Board
