Teams dominate tourneys
Soccer coaches visit from England

Local youth had a chance
to learn soccer skills from
two coaches from England
with a recent athletic camp.
The Community Wellness
Program hosted a soccer
camp th a t featured two
coaches involved with the
Challenger Sports program.
Challenger Sports sends
coaches from England, Scotland
and Wales throughout the U.S.
and Canada to various soccer
camps.
Carolyn Harvey, from the
Community Wellness Program,
said the company also held a
camp in Warm Springs in 2004.
She originally discovered
Challenger Sports while working
in O m ak, W ash., and later
brought the program to Warm
Springs.
The five-day camp gave kids
a chance to improve their soc
cer game along with others in
their age group.
A half-day camp was held for
youth from ages six to 16, while
a full-day camp was also offered
to those ages 10 to 16. *
The Community Wellness
Program gave scholarships for
35 children to attend the camps,
Harvey said.

Teams of local youth have
been dominating at several bas
ketball tournaments recendy.
A co-ed team w on the
Vancouver Hoops on the River
3 on 3 Tournament recently.
The team, dubbed the Lil
Slicks, included Katrina Greene,
Rodney Mitchell and Triston
Smith. They became the 2008
eighth grade co-ed champions at
the tournament, and also played
several games in the ninth and
tenth grade brackets in order to
play more games.
Two teams of Warm Springs
youth also faced off against each
other in the final round of the
Mainstreet Madness 3 on 3 tour
nament in Hilsboro.
The first place team in the
seventh and eighth grade divi
sion, the WS Tigerz, included
Jalen Graybael, Jhaylen Yeaqho,
Bryson Spino and D.J. Thomas
The Court Crushers included
