have for our children.
O n July 25, 2008 in the mid
afternoon our son wrecked on
a bicycle on campus. H e flipped
over the handle bars after hit
ting a patch o f gravel and lost
control.
O ur son was not wearing a
safety helm et and he had a mild
concussion along w ith several
bum ps and scrapes and bruises.
H e received assistance from the

I w ould like to thank you for
your quick actions and the noti
fications that had taken place.
This is a really scary situation
to be in: not knowing w hat hap
pened, how badly your child is
hurt, seeing your child scared,
crying, not knowing how m uch
pain the child is ins You’ve got a
ton o f things running through
your brain.
O ur family appreciates all o f
you for being there for our child
in the time o f need.
For the youth out in the com
munity, please wear your safety
helmet! Remember, safety first.
T hank you.

Great program
I recendy signed up my son
fo r th e O re g o n V irtu a l
Academy. My son has asthm a
and missed quite a bit o f school
in the last two years.
Because o f this health con
d ition, he g o t b eh in d in his
studies. Intellectually, my son’s
got it, b ut becuase o f his health
he got behind.
Now, my son has the oppor
tunity to attend school from
hom e via the internet. H e will
receive a free com puter (for the
school year), $12.95 a m onth to
offset the cost o f internet con
nection fee, and this is the best
part — an online teach er/tu to r
will be assigned to assist him ev
eryday!
This is a state approved pub
lic charter online school, and the
best opportunity to come along
to support kids’ valuable edu
cation.

Museum visit
O n our recent E lderhostel
trip to Oregon, we had the privi
lege o f visiting the M useum at
W arm Springs.
It was so well done, beauti
fully designed and m ost infor
mative. T hank you for sharing
the stories o f your history and
your culture.
E ach tim e I visit a N ative
American site or event, I realize
m ore clearly the injustices the
Indian people have experienced
by those o f us o f the w hite cul
ture. It causes me pain and guilt.
I congratulate you for w hat
you have achieved under such
adversities. Your culture has so
m uch to offer the rest o f us in
the living o f life — your respect
for the earth, its care, the use
o f th e e a rth ’s offerings, and
your value o f family.
While at the museum I was
reading one o f the newspapers
that were on the bench in the
entry area. O n the last page were
short articles written by individu
als w ho w ere apologizing for
their misdeeds in regard to tribal
laws. I applaud this and wish the
culture I live in w ould see the
value o f such action.
Respectfully,

Committees
G o o d day to c o m m itte e
m em bers o f W arm Springs. I
have been thinking a lot lately
about w hat the good L ord had
p ut on my heart to express w hat
has been on my mind. We as
Native Americans have endured
genocide and are thriving strong.
I never really truly understood
w hen I was younger w hen I
w ould hear about our ancestors
being wise and making decisions
for far into the future concern
ing our people. N ow that I am
older, I see it still to this day
happening.
I feel that I need to commend
those w ho are carrying on the
traditions o f our ancestors while
making it in m odern times and
combining the both to ensure the
survival o f our people. Those
w ho com e to m ind p u t forth
extra effort in their life to do
this. I am thinking o f all o f you
w ho serve on the different types
o f committees.
In the past I was obhvious to
the hard w ork you all put into
serving the committees; while at
the same time blissfully and ig
norantly enjoying the fruits o f
your labor, which is the security
.of my future as a tribal m em
b er and all the ben efits th a t
come along w ith being a tribal
benefit from. I feel that you all
deserve my u tm o st gratitude
and respect, which is n o t even
close to compensating you all for
w hat you truly deserve.
I stand amazed at how yoii
all take the extra time and ef
forts to know w hat is going on
in your specific d epartm ents
you preside over as well as the
different departm ents outside
o f our reservation that pertain
to the tribal organization’s busi
ness. You take the time to travel

Question: D oes eating eggs
increase my risk for a heart at
tack?
Answer: Egg yolks are very
high in cholesterol. Many ex
p e rts su g g est lo w erin g how
m uch cholesterol you eat to re
duce your risk o f heart disease.
For people with diabetes, eat
ing one egg a day doubled the
risk for a heart attach in m en
and raised the risk o f a heart
attack in w om en by 50 percent.
Instead o f eating an egg, try
eating an egg substitute, such as
E gg Beaters.
E g g B eaters are real eggs
minus the yolk. O r simply re-
m ove the yolk and eat only the
whites o f the egg.
A n o th e r o p tio n is to
scramble two whites w ith one
yolk every now and then. You
probably w on’t be able to taste
the difference. T here is no cho
