House fire claims two lives

Man wanted in region
arrested on reservation

wanted on warrants in Jefferson
and Deschutes counties was ar­
rested last week in W arm
Springs.
Warm Springs police arrested
Carl Williams III, 28, on Tues­
day, May 27.
Williams had been identified
as the subject involved in two
weekend incidents during which
he eluded State Police, county
sheriffs’ deputies, and city po­
lice officers.
Officers in Redmond, Ma­
dras, Bend and Prineville were
on the look-out for Williams.
During one o f the weekend
incidents, while attempting to
elude Deschutes County offic­
ers, Williams allegedly drove at
a speed of 50 mph through the
parking lot of the Cascade Vil­
lage Shopping Center in Bend,
nearly striking several pedestri­
ans.
He then parked the car and
fled, leaving the passenger,

Prineville, who was then charged
with possession of methamphet­
amine and hashish, according to
police reports.
Williams eluded police until
he was arrested by W arm
Springs Police. At the time, the
tribes apparently had an exclu­
sion order against Williams.

The fire department and police investigators responded to the house fire.
The tribal Police Depart­
ment and the FBI are inves­
tigating a house fire that hap­
pened May 28 in the West
Hills neighborhood o f Warm
Springs. The fire claimed the
lives of Mariel Lydia Frank,
49, and Chesley Yahtin Jr.,
43.
The case was still being in­
vestigated at press time, but
police released the following in­
formation:

day, May 28, said Warm Springs
Police Chief Carmen Smith.
The caller stated that the resi­
dence at 1678 Shepard Lane was
on fire. The fire departm ent
responded and extinguished the
fire. The structure received ex­
tensive damage.
After the, fire was extin­
guished, fire fighters located
the bodies of Ms. Frank and
Mr. Yahtin in the residence.
The fire occurred under
suspicious circumstances,
and is being investigated.
