Children’s Protective Services gives preview o f new building

Warm Spring’s community
tnembers were invited last week
to view the current building and
/S taff at the o pen house o f
Children’s Protective Services.
. Everyone received, a tour of the
building, information, a t-shirt,
and a preview o f their new
building, which is curreridy in the
/early stages.
Children’s Protective Ser­
vices is made up o f 23 staff
members, 16 of which admin­
ister the CPS program, and eight
to administer the CPS center.
/The majority of the staff have
started from the ground and
worked their way up to various
positions within CPS, as they
strive to promote in-house pro­
motion and recognize staff.
Long-time employees o f this
departm ent include: Patricia
Tanewasha, at CPS since 1993;
Jeri Smith, at CPS since 1982;
H azel W ahpat, at CPS since.
1999; and Margie Kentura, at
CPS since 1999.
R ebekah M ain is the
Children’s Protective Services
director and oversees the entire
program, including all supervi­
sors and staff. There are two
members of her staff that re­
port directly to her: Charlene
Stacona-White, who supervises
the administrative operations;
and the Protective Care Super­
visor, which is currently a va­
cant position. This person super­
vises, the Protective Care Pro­
viders o f the CPS center.
Cecelia Collins is the Family
Intake Coordinator; she does
joint investigations with Warm
Springs Police Department re­
garding child abuse reports.
Collins also facilitates family
unity meetings and oversees
ICWA cases that come from the
State o f O reg o n and o th er
states.
Bernaidine Jacksori-Spino is
the Foster Care Certifier; she
certifies foster homes and com­
pletes home visits where children
are placed. She recruits new fos­
ter home candidates, and assists
Tribal C o u rt in co nducting
adoption assessments.
There are three CPS Special­
ists who work with clients as
assigned to them, these client
services are adm inistered by
these three ladies as stipulated
by the Tribal Court. Specialists
include Roberta Tufti, Elizabeth
Hisatake, and 15-year employee
Pat Tanewasha.
There are two CPS Assis­
tants, who assist the specialists
or program staff with services
for clients or the program; they
are M innie W allulatum and
Monica Frank.
Paula Kalama is the Data
Coordinator and it is her job to
input data, statistics, medical
cards, IV-E eligibility and re­
views.
Service
C o o rd in ato r,
Marceline Medina, oversees the
independent living services pro­
gram and assists CPS Special­
ists and office administrator. She
also oversees the guardianship
program and special rates.
As previously stated, they
department staff begin at entry
level and work their way up,
learning with on-the-job training.
But occasionally have new hires
that come in and work. Cur­
rently they have vacant positions
as CPS Specialist, Protective
Care Supervisor for the center,
Protective Care Provider and
Secretary.
The open house was a suc­
cess, and they received a lot of
positive comments on the new
building design.
