jected $3.127 m illion budget
shortfall in the budget for the
2008-09 school year.
Meetings will be held across
the d istric t d u rin g the n ext
month to outline the issues that
led up to the shortfall, and to
ask participants for their input
on possible areas for reduction.

the federal government.
In most cases, payments
will range from $300 to $600
for individuals and $600 to
$1200 for joint filers. Taxpay
ers may receive $300 for each
qualifying child.
M ost taxpayers do not
need to take any extra steps
to receive the payment begin
ning in early May.
But there are some excep
tions.
Free Tax Help Available
Individuals who need to file
a return this year to receive a
stimulus payment may be able
to take advantage o f thousands
of free tax preparation sites na
tionwide for low-incom e and
elderly taxpayers.
The Volunteer Income Tax
A ssistan ce (VITA) p ro gram
provides help to low- and mod
erate-income taxpayers. Call 1-
800-906-9887 to locate the
nearest VITA site.
The Tax Counseling for
the Elderly (TCE) Program
provides free tax help to
people age 60 and older. As
part o f the IRS-sponsored
TCE Program, AARP offers
the Tax-Aide counseling pro
gram at more than 7,000 sites
nationwide during the filing
