School district
seeks input on
new superintendent
The Jefferson County 509-
J School District Board of
D irectors has begun the
search for a new school su­
perintendent
The school board has con-
tracted with the Oregon
School Board Association to
facilitate the process and ad­
vise the board.
Kay Baker, interim super­
intendent, will be with the
509-J schools through June
30 of 2008.
The. new superintendent’s
contract will begin July 1,
2008,
Betsy Miller-Jones, Or­
egon School Board Associa­
tion executive search consult­
ant, will be in Jefferson
County on Thursday and Fri­
day, December 6-7, to talk
with various community
groups regarding the qualities
and qualifications that the
new superintendent should
have.
The resulting list will form
the basis for the screening
and interview of the candi­
dates.
The community is encour­
aged to attend one of the fol­
lowing input sessions:

the Warm Springs Education
Building, top floor.
D ec 6 from 5-6 p.m in
the Buff Elementary Gym
Dec. 6 from 7—8 p.m. in

Friday, Dec. 7 from 9--10
a.m. in the School Board
Meeting Room, Support Ser­
vices Building, 445 SE Buff
Street
A special meeting for 509-
J staff will be held on Dec. 6
from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in thè
Buff Elementary gym.
The discussion will center
on the following three ques­
tions:
W hat is your district
known for; what do the
schools do especially well that
you want to see continued?
What are the most serious
challenges your district faces?
What personal and profes­
sional qualifications does
your new superintendent have
to have to building on your
strengths and meet the chal­
lenges?
