be separated into different com
ponents, each blood donation
can help save more than one
person.
Scheduling an appointment in
advance includes several ben
efits: it minimizes waiting time,
supports better donor care, en
courages better attitudes, pre
vents a shortage o f supplies and
staff, enhances hospital service,
assists platelet. preparation and
helps provide a safe and ad-
equate blood supply.
The Pacific Northwest re
gion began collecting blood
for its community in 1949
and is now the sole provider
o f blood and blood products
to more than 80 local hospi

and Alaska.
Only five percent o f the
eligible population donates

Resource team approves five projects
The Resource Management Interdisciplinary
Team : (R M ID T ) recen tly approved five
projects through the small project approval
(SPA) process. The projects cover improve
ments to the Happy Valley Reservoir road, two
phases of'Sunnyside Subdivision, and place
ment S f large w ood in the Deschutes and
Metolius rivers.
R M ID T unanimously passed a resolution
to approve a project involving improvement
o f the road leading to Happy Valley Reser
voir. The project will include numerous im
provements tp the road, a new parking area at
the réservoir, and an erosion control plan. Since
portions o f the project are within an area des
ignated as conditional Use, R M ID T will present
the proposal to Tribal Council fpr their ap
proval.
R M ID T approved two, SPAs' that will ex-;
paftd development o f the Sunnyside -Subdivi
sion as Phase 2 and Phase 3. Under Phase 2,
expected to be implemented in 2009, an addi
tional 31 lpts will be added to the subdivision.
Two more SPAs involving,the placement
o f large wood in the Deschutes and MetoHus
rivers also passed with broad-based support
from RM IDT. Wood placement is part o f an
ongoing effort to improve fish habitat in the
vicinity o f the Pelton-Round Butte hydroelec
tric project, which was recently re-licensed
through the Federal Energy Regulatory Com
mission. The re-licensing effort- included a
number o f projects to improve fish habitat
and passage o f anadromous fish around the
Pelton-Round Butte dams.
