The Jefferson County Middle School Cultural Dance Group toured local elementary
schools last week and demonstrated various types of dancing from across the globe.
According to Butch David, cultural liaison, 56 students participate in the group—while
most are middle school students, several high school and elementary school students
also join in.
The purpose of the dance group, David said, is to show the younger students that all
the students can exist as one once they reach the elementary school level. “To me it’s
a great thing because it’s a one of a kind thing,” he said.
The group featured Native American dancing along with modern and traditional,
Hispanic dancing, Polynesian dancing, ballroom, can-can dancing, and even clowns
and cowboys.
