Museum hosting
science camp in May
20 youth complete TRAIL program
We would like to thank all
the Boys and Girls Clubs
Warm Springs Branch mem­
bers who participated in the
1-mile Fun Run-Walk at the
club, school, and campus area
after school on April 11.
We would especially like to
thank our volunteers Althea
Walker and Steven Smith for
their assistance and support.
The Fun Run-Walk was
held to conclude the end of
our first Round o£ TRAIL
(Together Raising Awareness
o f Indian Life), a youth dia­
betes awareness program.
t We had 20 out o f 35 par­
ticipants .com plete the 12
chapter curriculum. The par­
ticipants learned about nutri­
tion, healthy eating habits,
physical activities, environ­
mental awareness, commu­
nity service, media influences,
general history o f the area
and tribe, and overall respect
for themselves, others, and
; community.
The Museum at Warm
Springs will host the Seeds of
Discover}' science day-camp for
fourth-graders on .Friday, May
11 . .
This year the science camp
will include presentations by the
World Forestry Center and the
Central Oregon Audubon Soci­
ety, which will be new at the
camp this year. OMSI will be

These young people completed the first round of the TRAIL youth diabetes awareness
program, which concluded with a Fun Run-Walk earlier this month.
The run-walk is one event o f
two that the TRAIL members,
planned Tor the club and com­
munity.
The club members will be
holding another event the week
o f April 25*27, from 3.-30 to
4:30-p.m«, to help plan the start
up o f the club garden.

Gamesroom tourney fun for youth

Harry and Soraya Mendez par­
ticipated in the Boys and Girls
Clubs,of Central Oregon Re­
gional Gamesroom Tournament
in Madras earlier this month.
They competed with about 70
other youth from other clubs
around Central Qregon, includ­
ing
Bend, - Redm ond,
Terrebonne, Ariel Glen (Bend
site), Prineville and Madras.
The competition was very
good and the winners from each
event and age division (6-3

at the Blazer Club.
It was a long, tough day, but
Waymon,1 Lynden ahd Soraya
stuck it out. They were able to
compete in three-events avail­
able for their age, including
checkers, chgssy table tennis
(ping pong), pool, bumper pool
and foosball.
Soraya placed third in check­
ers for her age division ($-8
present, as in years past.

Girl Scout troop forming
to serve Warm Springs
A new Girl Scout troop is
forming in Warm Springs. 1

Whittenburg are planning to he
the troop leaders. v
Katchia has said she „will be
the leader o f the Daisy Scouts,
for gils ages 5 and 6 (k-Tl grade).

Whittenburg are leaders: of the
Brownie troop for girls 'ages 7
and 8 '(2ild-3ldgrades).
There currently is no leader
for the older age girls. “We are
currently in the process o f re­
cruiting girls and parents who ate
interested in participating,” said
Katchia. “We are all new at this
but we would like to bring some»
thing positive here for the local
girls.”

Waymon Harry placed sec­
ond in table tennis for the 12-
14 year olds. He also received
a Sportsmanship award and will
be traveling to Portland on May
12 to compete again.
