campment.
Thè event will begin Nov.

Fall sports are coming to an
end, but for many soccer play
ers that only means the transi
tion to the next athletic season.
The tribal member players on
the girls’ varsity team said many
o f them are getting ready to play
basketball this winter— and af
ter that it will be time for track
in the spring for the multi-tal
ented athletes.
Jacoba Smith, Ashley Evans,
Tianna Herkshan and Briana
Stacona all played on the girls’
varsity team this year.
For Evans, soccer has been
a long-term commitment. She
has practiced the sport since the
fifth grade.
“My favorite part would
have to be the adrenaline rush,”
she said— especially the rush that
comes after making a success
ful kick, Evans added.
Stacona and Evans are both
juniors this year, and Stacona
said soccer is a sport that helps
to condition them for following
athletic seasons.
“It gets you ready for the next
sport,” she explained.
Smith finished her senior year
on the girls’ varsity team and
said it is her second year on the
team.
As for what she enjoys most
about soccer,“I like the physi
cal contact,” she said.
All o f the girls agree that soc
cer takes plenty o f skill and
knowledge.
“It’s not as boring as people
share a moment with those who
once gathered at that special
place and to join with other
Columbia River descendents.
Those who wish to attend are
welcome to bring songs, stories
and photographs to share.
Tee pees, poles and tents are
needed for the encampement.

takes a lot o f effort to run up
and down the field so often, she
added.
