The crews first left for the Tripod fire in July. They came home for a few days recently, and then returned again to the fire. They are expected to be there until Labor Day. There have been eight crews from Warm Springs at the Tripod fire. There are usually about 10 people per crew. A. 16-year-oId junior in high school, Smith said he enjoys the summer work he does. “I ’ve been learning a lot, ” he added. Butch David said Smith is an excellent employee. “H e’s been here every day,” David said. “He has participated in all the activities we have done. ” The activities vary fo r summer youth workers, but David said this stimmer Smith andfellow workers have participated in archaelogical studies, water and soil studies, and activities involving forestry, agri­ culture, fish biology and fish and wildlife: Smith said he plans to pursue a college degree after he graduates from Madras High School. During high school Smith has playedfootballfor one year andpar­ ticipated in track fo r two years.
