Candidate continues fam ily tradition
Hi, everyone.
My name is Kristen Tom.
I am 15 years old and I will
be a sophomore in high
school this fall. I am a candi
date for the 2006 Miss Pi-
Ume-Sha Rodeo Queen.
My parents are Lee and
Cheryl Tom. I have two sis
ters, Liana Tom Hoylan and
Charmaine Billey, and two
brothers, Justin Tom and
Benj Billey.
My interests are playing
basketball, and rodeoing. I
have been riding horses most
of my life, for as long as I can
remember.
I come from a rodeo fam
ily. My family supports me in
all my activities. I compete in
rodeos throughout the
Northwest and Southwest
regions. I barrel race and par-
ticipate in ladies breakaway rop
ing, and once in awhile I com
pete in the steer riding and cow
riding.
Last year I was named the
Rookie of the Year by the West
ern States Indian Rodeo Asso
ciation.
Being Pi-Ume-Sha Rodeo
Queen is a family rodeo legacy.
My auntie Rosie Tom was the
first Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Day
Rodeo Queen, and other family
members have followed this
reign: Arlene Bryant, Sammy
Bruised Head, Ada Billey, and
Erica Wewa.
My Grandma Janet was Tygh
Valley Queen and my Auntie
Rosie represented several ro
deos such as Tygh Valley All
Indian #■ Rodeo, Klamath Falls
Rodeo, Hoopa All Indian Ro
deo, Western States Indian Ro-
deo, National American In
dian Cattlemen’s Association
and American Indian Beauty
Contest in Redmond.
My sister Liana was also
the First Runner up for Miss
Indian Rodeo North
America. I was encouraged to
run for queen by my mother
and aunt. If selected I will do
my best to represent the
Confederated Tribes to the
best of my ability.
I will be in the area selling
raffle tickets as part of the re
quirement for queen candi
date. Your support would be
greatly appreciated. I would
like to invite everyone to the
Pi-Ume-sha Rodeo June 24-
25, 2006.
