Goudy, 10, fought a good bout

“Each round he boxed, he
got better and better,” said
coach Austin Sm ith o f
Goudy’s first-ever match.
Also on May 13 at Ma­
dras, Johnny Smith boxed in
the 152-pound bracket. This
was his first open match, with
the winner being Gavin Scott
o f West Pordand.
“It was a good match and
Johnny fought a good fight,”
Smith said. “He’s looking for­
ward to a rematch.”
The Warm Springs boxers
will see a lot o f action in com­
ing weeks, with Pi-Ume-Sha
boxing this month, and also
the June 17 matches at the
K la-M o-Y a
Casino
at
Chiloquin. Jasper Smith will
also box at the Marquette,
and at the Indigenous Games
in Denver, Colo.
Pi-Ume-Sha weekend includes boxing
The 2006 Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty
Days will be on Saturday, 24 at
the Warm Springs Community
Center gymnasium. Bouts will
start at 4 p.m.
This is a USA amateur box­
ing sanctioned event. Boxers
from throughout the Northwest
will compete.
Pi-Ume-Sha Boxing this year
will benefit the athletes who are
planning compete at the Indig­
enous Games July 2-9 at Den­
ver, Colo.
Meanwhile, Warm Springs
boxers are looking for sponsors
for the Indigenous Games, set
for July 2-9 in Denver, Colo.
Boxers planning to attend the
games include Oits Johnson
(heavyweight), Trevor Tewee
(light heavyweight), Johnn y
Sm ith (light middleweight),
Wesley Graybael (welter-weight),
Ja sp er Sm ith (lightw eight),
Leander Sm ith (cadet), and
Delbert Goudy (cadet).
Anyone interested in helping
sponsor the trip can call Austin

Sponsorships are $35 annually.
This covers one boxer for the
year.
For the Pi-Ume-Sha matches,
weigh-in will be from 8 a.m. to
1 p.m. Doctor’s exam from 2 to

Boxing at Klamath Kla-Mo-Ya Casino
Klamath Boxing and Fitness
on June 17 will present the First
Annual Klash at K la-M o-Ya
Amateur Boxing Competition.
Boxing at the event will be
Warm Springs Boxing Club
members Jasper Smith, Wesley
Graybael, Trevor Tewee and
Oits Johnson.
Feature bouts at the event
include the No. 1 heavyweight
in the USA vs. the Native na­
tional champion, and the No. 2
heavyweight in the USA vs. cage
champ Roland Graham. Also
boxing will be Golden Gloves
champions Jackson Bussell and
Randy Rogers, and boxers o f
the local Klamath area Hunter
Cole, Victor Ulloa and Shane
Weiser.
The event begins at 4 p.m.
on Saturday, June 17. The loca­
tion is the Kla-Mo-Ya Casino.

Moody shines at championships
Charlene Moody was recendy
named the outstanding female
field athlete at the Northwest
Athletic Association o f Commu­
nity Colleges Track and Field
Championships.
Moody is a 2005 graduate of
Madras High School, and now
attends Lane Community Col­
lege on an athletic scholarship.
Moody was an outstanding
track and field athlete at Ma­
dras High School, with her best
sport being the shot put.
She is continuing her athletic
success at the college level. The

Colleges
(NWAACC) Championships
were held May 22-23 at Spo­
kane Falls Community College
in Spokane, Wash.
Moody won the NWAACC
championship in the shot put
with a mark o f 40 feet, 4 V 2
inches.
She placed second in the dis­
cus, and was seventh in the ham­
mer throw.
Moody just completed her
freshman year at Lane Commu­
nity College in Eugene.
She grew up in Simnasho. Her
parents are Captain Moody and
Winona Garrison.
Pi- Ume-Sha R oad Warriors R u n is June 24
The Warm Springs Recre­
ation Department is sponsor­
ing the 2006 Pi-U m e-Sha
Road Warriors Run.
The run begins at 8 a.m.
on Saturday, June 24.
Runners gather at the
parking lot o f the administra­
tion building. Race registra­
tion is held in the building
starting at 7 a.m., and both
Pi-Ume-Sha races begin at 8
a.m. sharp.
The course is out and back,
all on blacktop pavement. Wa­
ter stations are located at the 1.5
mile marker and the 3.1 mile
marker. There are seven age cat­
egories for both the male and
female divisions. The age cat­
egories are: 13 and under, 14-
18, 19-29, 40-49, 50-59, and 60
and over.
Ribbons are given to the top
three finishing runners in all
age categories. There will also
be a door prize and raffle for
which each registered runner
is eligible. Pre-registration
with t-shirt: $12 (before June
23). Day o f race registration
is also available.
