New bridge adds Kah-Nee-Ta access

The new Culpus Bridge over
the Warm Springs River by Kah-Nec-Ta
is complete.
The project took nearly a year
to finish, at a cost of $1.4 mil
lion. The new bridge provides im
proved access to the east end
of Kah-Nec-Ta, and can serve
as a second main access to the
resort and casino.
The bridge is located at the
cast end of Webster Mat Road,
off Route 3 past Wolf Point.
This alternate route should
improve driving safety for em
ployees and guests of the resort
during icy winter months.
The B1A provided the fund
ing for the new bridge, designed
by Anderson-Perry Inc. of
LtGrande.
The tribal Engineering De
partment administered the
project, with the tribal Construc
tion Enterprise, as the main con
tractor, doing much of the
work.
There is still BIA money left
for bridge projects on the res
ervation. The money will be
used to design and construct
four more small bridges: the
Upper Mill Creek Bridge, the

To qualify, the bridge must
be one that the public uses,
rather than a private one.
The new Culpus Bridge in
cludes paved paths for use by
pedestrians and bicyclists. Also,
an improved kayak takeout ac
cess road was included as part
of the project.
Some final landscaping will
be done in the fall, as the final
phase of the project.
The old Culpus Bridge was
left in place for tribal members
to use for fishing and swimming.

Desert Resort and Casino Gal
lery of Art is accepting new
works of art from Warm
Springs tribal artists to display
at the resort for the summer.
The deadline to review new
works of art is June 15.

The American Association of Retired People (AARP)
driver safety class will be held from 8 a.m. to noon
Monday and Tuesday, June 13-14 at High Lookee Lodge.
The two 4-hour classes qualify participants for auto insur
ance discount at age 55. All drivers welcome. $10 student
fee. Important: Particpants must be in the classroom and
ready to start by 8 a.m. on both days, and must attend
and participate in all eight hours to qualify for certificate.
To attend this call and receive your Certificate of Comple
tion, register by calling 317-0610 and speak to Ruth, who
will place your name on the class roster. Walk-ins cannot
attend and receive a certificate.
The community is invited to share a delicios healthy
breakfast with Sara and Elsie at the Warm Springs Pod
Kitchen on Tuesday, June 14, starting at 8:45 a.m. Every
one is invited (young and old and somewhere in between)
to breakfast prepared by Sara with emphasis on tasty, de
licious, healthy food for everyone to enjoy. Elsie will talk
about eye disease. All or most of the food is made from
scratch and copies of the recipes will be made available.

in anniversary
The staff of the Warm
Springs Health and Wellness
Center will join in the events
marking the anniversary of the
signing of the treaty of 1855.
On Wednesday, June 22, the
staff will participate in sharing
their heritage by wearing their
Native clothing while on duty.
The staff will participate as
a way of honoring the commu
nity of the Confederate Tribes
of Warm Springs for their com
mitment to their traditional be
liefs and customs.
In wearing the traditional
clothing, the staff will pay hom
age to the ancestors, and pay
respect the elders who carry on
the beliefs and share their
knowledge in friendship with all
peoples.
The Health and Wellness
staff invite the community to
share with them, and see the
different tribes and diverse na
tions in their Native dress.
