Quaid seels 509-J position
By Julie Quaid
I am running for position
4 on the Jefferson County
School District 509-J Board
of Directors. I have served
the last 12 months through
an appointment to a vacated
school board position.
I lost a close race last year
and would like to continue
serving by winning the up
coming election. I am running
against opponent Stacy Reed.
I would like to continue
serving because I enjoy work
ing in K-12 public education,
and have the experience,
knowledge and ability to build
cooperative relationships with
people and organizations.
Julie Quaid
I believe that all children
must experience a sense of be
longing to a family community
and school; all children must
believe their dreams can come
true; and all children must be
come a strong member of our
community.
I would appreciate your
support by casting a vote for
me so I can continue serving
on the Jefferson County
school board.
No ballot box
There will not be a ballot
box in Warm Springs for the
upcoming election, as there is
not a suitable location, accord
ing to the county clerk's of
fice. A ballot box would have
to be available until 8 p.m. on
Election Day, and there is no
site that would qualify, said
county clerk Kathy Marston.
So be sure to mail in your
ballot, or drive it to Madras.

School discussion in Warm Springs
Join the Chalkboard Project
in Warm Springs for a school
discussion group from 7 to 8:30
p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at
the Family Resource Center.
Soft drinks and pizza will be
served to participants.
The Chalkboard Project is
charged with exploring what it
takes to make our K-12 public
schools among the nation's best.
The goal is for citizens to ex
plore the issues and discuss some
choices about what is most im
portant to you in building a su
perior K-12 system in Oregon.
The Chalkboard Project was
launched by five of Oregon's
leading non-profit foundations,
hoping to close the student
achievement gap for all Orego-nians.
The project will share with
the public and with the legisla
ture recommendations from the
civic engagement process by the
end of the school year.
For more information about
the project, or the May 19 meet
ing in Warm Springs, call Julie
Quaid at 553-3438, or Maura
Schwartz at 475-0348.
