The tourist season at Kah-Ncc-Ta begins with Memorial Day Weekend, May 28-30. Currently the It nlfje is booked at 50-pcrccnt occupancy for the Memorial Day weekend, and we anticipate 100 percent occu pancy when the weekend arrives. To prepare for the tourist high season, a CPRI'irst Aid training class was given to 89 em ployees on May 5-6. The purpose of the class was to prepare the staff to respond to an emergency that may arise during the busy summer season. In March, Sharon Jones, working in casino marketing, completed 30 hours of training on promotional strategies for the gaming industry at the Univer sity of Nevada, Reno. The training was put on by Gaming Management Scries. Jones said, "I came back with more information, and felt in spired by active instructors, other marketing professionals, and a great networking experi ence. Training for caregivers June 1 The tribal Senior and Dis abled Services, under the Vic tims of Crime Department is sponsoring a caretaker and caregiver training at the HeHe Longhouse from 8 am till 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1. This will be free to all par ticipants. State and tribal service workers will be the presenters. Housing: 29 went through training (Continued from page 9) Applying for HUD housing is simply a matter of filling out an application at the tribal hous ing office. HUD housing is based on family income and family composition. Applicants are put through a training course to orientate them on the HUD . contract and their lease, as well as home maintenance. In the future, the training will include information on establishing and re-establishing credit. A total of 29 people have gone through the training course, Prow said. "We're hoping to have all 29 in homes within two years," he said. There are currendy 65 on the tribes' HUD waiting list There are three classifica tions of housing served by the Housing Department, including the mutual help buy program through HUD, the tribal rental program, and low-income and HUD rentals. One class of housing not yet offered, but one that Prow hopes to have avail able on the Warm Springs res ervation, is private home own ership, including the possibility of duplexes tribal members can own, to use as a residence on one side and rent out on an en trepreneurial basis on the other.
