The following are the nomi
nations submitted for the
award:
Becky Main, CPS director
Becky works for Confederated
Tribes CPS Department, and
has worked in the field of In
dian Child Welfare for over five
years.
She goes out of her way to
help and has been of assistance
to many other tribes, including
ones from the outside of Or
egon. Many area tribal workers
seek her out for her abundant
knowledge and wisdom. She has
endured many trials and hard
ships in her position as CPS di
rector in Warm Springs. She has
been able to hold the program
and staff together through times
of adversity, as illustrated re
cently in the case of a child fa
tality. Becky is ethical and profes
sional in her business dealings,
and has proven she is more than
able to fill her predecessor's
shoes. She serves well as a liai
son and advocate. She can fol

bring things together success-

Special prayers to my family, as
we have buried two elders,
Nettie and Romagene. If I have

Now we've grown up and

To the Editor,
How many people know what
is going on with the Council and
management trying to "638" the
clinic. Probably nobody, because
all theift, deaU (are , top, secret.
Remember this is "Our Treaty
Right." This right to health care
does not belong only to top
management and the anti-Indian
voting majority of "our" Tribal
Council. They can't use this
money for the tribal budget.
Sure, they can make their
business dealing sound good on
paper. But just remember, these
same big shots are the same
ones who refuse to account to
the tribal members for their past
bad schemes, that turned out
good only for themselves and
their carpetbagger friends. That
money just didn't disappear into
thin air. It went into somebody's
pocket. They're trying to con
people into believing them.
When this "638" money disap
pears and the tribes are further
in debt, are they going to try
selling the reservation out from
under us?
If they "638" the clinic, that
would be the end of another
treaty right, just like when this
bunch gave away "the tribes'
water." Someone had to have
been compensated or benefited
for "giving our water to their
new rich friends." It sure wasn't
the real tribal members, because

strengths as a lead caseworker
as well as acting CPS director
through out the years.
Patricia has worked closely
throughout these past 10 years
with CPS, with other tribes and
other state agencies for either
ICWA cases, or cases that she
has been assigned to. She also
assists others who are struggling
with their work.
Patricia is a team leader as
well as being an assistant pastor
to the Warm Springs Shaker
Church. Patricia always sets an
example for all of us at CPS.
Throughout the years that I
to the editor
none of us has seen anything.
They must be planning on
selling our rights to health care.
I've already been told by a few
people that they were denied
services because they didn't have
certain illness.
That sounds like discrimina
tion to me. Or, are they just
"practicing" turning Indians
away?
They still have that plaque
out front declaring this the
healthiest nation by the year
2000. Or, were they referring
to just a few people's healthy
wallets.

have worked with Patricia, she
has gone out of her way to as
sist children, families and foster
families. She spends numerous
hours either before work or af
ter work doing what she needs
to, to get the job done. She is
very dedicated and committed.
Let's not forget Patricia's gener
osity of bringing in those awe
some "sweets" and "snacks."
Regardless, she's always giving
from her heart and of herself.
Patricia always finds a way to
help families, and she finds cre
ative ways to make the children
comfortable, and assist families
with resources in the commu
nity. She is able to utilize her skills
and knowledge. Patricia presents
a spiritual essence both to the
program and the families who
she works closely with at work
or at the Shaker Church.
Patricia is looked up to not
only as a spiritual leader but also
as an elder, a friend, and an em
bodiment of commitment to
helping those in need.
She is a role model to all who
work with her and who know
her, since she takes no sides and
is partial to all.
