Tribal ranches to provide hunting
The Confederated Tribes of
Warm Springs manage the Pine
Creek, Oxbow and Forrest
Ranches for wildlife and fish
habitat
The tribes are offering lim
ited numbers of big game hunt
ing access permits to each prop
erty for 2003.
Big game permits are divided
equally between tribal members
and the general public.
The permit application dead
line July 31.
The 34,000-acre Pine Creek
Ranch is located near Fossil on
the lower John Day River.
The Forrest and Oxbow
Ranches are located on the
Middle Fork John Day River,
north of John Day.

To apply for a permit, mail
in a legible photocopy of your
tribal identification card.
Tribal members will need a
ceded area tag to hunt.
Specify which season and
game unit you are applying to
hunt. You may apply for one
deer and one elk hunt. Non
tribal members may apply by
mailing a photocopy of a pur
chased tag.
Party applications are limited
to three people per party. Par
ties are entered once in the draw
ing and will not be divided. No
party hunting will be available
on the Forrest and Oxbow prop

County fairs open soon
The Jimmy and Neda
Wesley family are sponsoring
a three-quarter mile horse
race in August at the Wasco
County Fair. This is a memo
rial for "Hot Dog" Eliza
Greene Redhouse.
Winner of the memorial
race receives $1,000 cash,
trophy, jacket, cooling blan
ket, memorial helmet and
racing hat. An engraved
Pendleton blanket goes to
the owner of the winning
horse. The Wasco County
Fair is set for Aug. 16 at Tygh
Valley. Call 553-1538 for in

Meanwhile, the Jefferson
County Fair and Rodeo is this
weekend at the county fair
is $5, which includes admission
to the rodeo and Saturday night
dance. Children under 12 get in
for $3. A family day pass if $15.
This year marks the Seventi
eth Anniversary of the Jefferson
County Fair. Livestock show
ings, fair exhibits, musical and
other entertainment, the rodeo,
a carnival and dance are just
some of the attractions.
This year the main musical
entertainment is the band Lone
some Road. They play Saturday
from 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. The ro
deos are Friday at 8 p.m, and
Saturday at 8 p.m. The Hotshot
Dancers, and Grupo Antifaz will
also be there.
The fair parade is Saturday
at 10 a.m. The fair talent show

Golfers tee up in Santa Fe I Scramble results tallied

Junior Golf Team will be com
peting in the 2003 National
Native American Junior Golf
Championship in Santa Fe, New
Mexico on July 28-31.
The team members are
Davey Culpus, Rodney Katchia
and Jordan Stacona, all of Warm
Springs; and Jonas Moses and
Sidney Jones, of Pendleton.
Each of these young men has
played on either the Madras
High or Pendleton High golf
teams.

provide an opportunity for Na
tive American junior golfers to

There will be a special appear

Courses to be played are the
Towa Golf Course, Black Mesa
Golf Course and Pueblo de
Cochiti Golf Course in Santa
Fe. Each of the players will com
pete in individual medal play and
in team competition.
The team had a fundraiser
golf scramble at the Wildhorse
Resort and Casino Golf Course
and the Kah-Nee-Ta High
Desert Resort and Casino Golf
Course.
These fundraisers have
helped pay for the airfare, lodg
ing, rental van, tournament fees,
practice round fees, meals and
uniform expenses.
Kah-Nee-Ta hosted a
golf scramble fundraiser on
July 13 for the Oregon Jun
ior Columbia River Golf
Team. The event helped
fund the team's upcoming
competition in Santa Fe (see
