Golf team competes at district
The Madras High School
golf team was at the district
tournament this week.
The tournament deter
mines whether the team, or in
dividuals on the team, will
continue competition this
school year.
The district tournament
was held during the first part
of this week at Eagle Crest
Resort in Redmond.
Three members of the
Confederated Tribes of
Warm Springs are on the
Madras High School golf
team, which is coached by
Dan Hiatt.
The three tribal members
are Jordan Stacona, Davey
Culpus and Rodney Katchia.
Stacona, the top player on
the high school team, is a jun
ior this year. Culpus is a se
nior and Katchia is a fresh
man. Davey Culpus, Rodney

of the Root Feast Rodeo, held
last month in W arm Springs.
Saddle-bronc: first place,

Bruisedhead; and third place,
Norm Thomas.

Calf roping: first place, Bill

Baseball camp
is May 17-18
The Community Wellness
Diabetes Prevention Team Co
ordinator Carolyn Harvey, in
cooperation with the Warm
Springs Recreation Department,
will host a free two-day baseball
camp for youth 9-18 on Satur
day and Sunday, May 17-18.

A cool day presented good
weather for the runners of the
Reservation Relay held Satur
day, May 3, at Kah-Nee-Ta. This
event is held annually and spon
sored by the Warm Springs Rec
reation department.
The course begins at Kah-Nee-Ta
Milage and they run the
56-mile course to Simnasho on
Highway 3, from Simnasho to
Hwy 26.
They continue to Warm
Springs Agency area, and back
to Kah-Nee-Ta on Hwy 3.
Coming in first with the time
of 6 Hrs. 37 min, 4 seconds
was Sporting Woody 's of White
Salmon, Washington.
The team was the overall win
ners of the adult male division
and they were Sherm Rouse
(captain), Mark Moland, Tim
Lathum, Tim Tolbert, and
Danny Allen.
Crossing the finish line next
was Mixed Woody's of Hood
River with the time of 7.21:16.
They were the adult co-ed
champions. The team was Roger,
Bill Mellow, Lloyd, Kathy,
Heather.
Third to cross the finish was
Spring Nation of Warm Springs
with the time of 7.41:30. They ,
were the youth division cham
pions, and they were Randy
Boise, Jr. (captain), George
Boise, Cameron Nathan, Clay
Starr, Stephen Vacth, and Maria
Garate.
Finishing fourth was
Jefferson County Middle School
of Madras with the time of
8.17:30.
This team was runner-up in
the adult co-ed division. They
were Rachel Barnhurst (cap
tain), Monica Freeman, Simon
White, Brad Whitcomb, and
Geoff Randle.
Fifth to cross the, finish line
was Team Kaipo of Warm
Springs with the time of
9.47:02.
They were the adult male
runner-up, they were Kaipo
Akaka (captain), Brandon Th
ompson, Cal Poncho, Jeff
Carolla, and Triston Boise.
Finishing in sixth was the
adult female champions Warm
Springs Elementary with the
time of 10.20:02.
Their team was Dawn Smith

Kah-Nee-Ta. The scramble
raised funds to help
Squiemphcn-Yazzie with her
kidney transplant operation,
scheduled to happen this sum
