Mitchell to bless new venture
Tribal Councilwoman
Bernice Mitchell this month will
conduct the blessing ceremony
of a tribally owned business in
Bend.
On April 25 Mitchell will
conduct the blessing of Cort
Directions, a payroll and human
resources software company.
The business was acquired
earlier this year by Warm
Springs Ventures, the tribes busi
ness and economic development
corporation.

set for May
The Country Quilters
quilt guild of Jefferson
County will host the Sixth
Biennial Quilt Show on Sun
day, May 4. ,
The event will be at the
Jefferson County Library
from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.

Patricia A. Speakthunder
of Warm Springs has passed
away. She was 63 years of
age.
Mrs. Speakthunder was
born January 10, 1940, to fa
ther Joseph Ike and mother
Dorothy Quimpts Cassaway.
She is survived by her hus
band Robert Speakthunder;
daughter Romelle Renee;
brother Marvin James Ike,
and sister Bernadine
Cassaway. She is also survived
by grandson Keyshawn
Speakthunder.
Russell Cecil Tall Bull
Russ.ell Cecil Tall Bull,
Nota'x'e-ve'ho'e, passed
away on March 29 in
Redmond, following a short
illness. He was 76.
Mr. Tall Bull was born
January 1, 1927, at Muddy
Creek, Mont., to Charles Tall
Bull and Mary (Brady) Tall
Bull.
He attended Busby
School, and was a member
of the Mennonite Church.
He was a member of the
Northern Cheyenne Nation.
A decedent of the Dog Sol
dier Military Society, Mr. Tall
Bull joined the U.S. Army and
served in the Korean War. He
received an honorable dis
charge. Mr. Tall Bull married Delia

Work on
homes set
for summer
The Sierra Service Project
will be offering home repair and
improvement to homes on the
reservation during the summer.
The deadline to submit an
application for this service is
Friday, April 25. The work will
be completed by youth and
adult volunteers in coordination
with an experienced paid staff.
There will no charge for the
materials and labor used in the
repair of your home.
It may not be possible to do
all that you wish done to your
home. However, a Sierra Ser
vice Project employee will dis
cuss with you the actual work
our volunteers will be doing.
The Sierra Service Project
crews will do all work promised
by this employee.
If you are interested, please
contact the Warm Springs
Housing Department at 553
3250, as soon as possible. After
evaluation of applications, the
work will be scheduled between
June 29 and August 9.
School budget
for 2003-04
to be discussed
The budget committee of the
Jefferson County School District
509-J will conduct a public hear
ing on Tuesday, April 22, regard
ing the budget of the next
school year.
The meeting will be at 7:30
p.m. at the school district Sup
. port Services Building, 445 S.E.
Buff St., Madras.
The purpose of the meeting
is to receive the budget message
and to receive comments from
the public on the budget.
A copy of the budget docu
ment may be inspected; at, the
meeting, or at the school Sup
port Services Building between
the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.,
after the meeting date.
For the April 22 meeting, any
person may appear and offer
comments regarding the pro
posed 2003-04 school year bud
get. Anyone needing special ac
commodations to attend the
meeting should call 475-6192.

Mennonite Church in 1959.
He worked for the Union
Pacific building railroads in
his younger life. He was also
a rancher, firefighter, sawmill
worker, auto mechanic, and
a carpenter.
He enjoyed working on
cars, gardening, picking ber
ries, making dry meat and
shopping at the Indian mall
(the dumps). He also enjoyed
the simple things in life of
visiting with his relatives and
friends, and most of all
watching his grandchildren
growing up.
Mr. Tall Bull was preceded
in death by his wife Delia
(Red Cherries) Tall Bull; his
daughter Rosie Tall Bull, par
ents Charles and Mary, and
brothers Joe, Henry, Bill,
Charles and Matthew Tall
Bull.
He is survived by his chil
dren Milward Tall Bull of
Warm Springs; Merlin Red
Cherries and Mildred Red
Cherries, of Lame Deer,
Mont.; Ardyth Wheeler of
Venezuela; Thorton Tall Bull
of Seatdc; Joleta Cordcll of
Fort Lewis, Wash., and
Merideth Tall Bull of Swit
zerland. Also surviving arc his
sister Nellie Beartusk and
brothers Nelson and Jacob
Tall Bull. Mr. Tall Bull had
15 grandsons, 10 grand
daughters, and one great
