I Rr--- z.
I or as long as our people can remember, jrsagiglalal "she
who watches" has kept a protective eye on the tribes of the
mid-Columbia and Great Basin. She watched as Lewis and Clark
arrived in 1805, welcomed and assisted by our ancestors. And
she watches today, as our people cooperate with neighboring
communities to build a better economic future.
J.P. Patt and Rudy Clements know it's their responsibility
to watch over and lead our people. As two of our tribal
leaders, J.P. and Rudy find inspiration in our past to
guide our destiny. They value sustainable practices that balance the use and
protection of our life-giving natural resources. J.P. and Rudy also understand
the value of sharing with our neighboring communities, and
supported agreements donating some of our water rights to
help sustain our neighbors' farms and cities.
Now, J.P., Rudy and other tribal leaders are working
with Governor Ted Kulongoski to address the harsh realities
of poverty on our reservation. New economic development
initiatives and cooperative projects will create jobs,
resulting in the economic self sufficiency all
Oregonians desire.
J.P, Rudy and Governor Kulongoski know that
tough times demand a watchful eye, inspirational
leadership and our best efforts to create success
for our families and for future generations in
Oregon. And that's exactly the results they
intend to accomplish in the months ahead.
