Warm Springs
Elementary
fourth graders
compete in
trade meet
The Warm Springs Elementary
fourth graders traveled to Madras
High School on Thursday, May 23,
to compete in their annual track
meet.
Several schools came together to
compete against each other in events
such as the Broad Jump, 440 Relay,
High Jump and other relays.
The events were on going
throughout the morning. At noon
they went to the park and enjoyed
their sack lunches.
The afternoon was filled with
fifth graders of surroundingl schools
coming together for their track meet
also.
At this time the results of both
track meets are unavailable.
Nathan leads Mini-Marathon runners
during annual event at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort
The 20,h Annual Kah-Nee-ta Mini
Marathon drew runners from
throughout Central Oregon during
the May 4 event.
The race offers a variety of dis
tances and places runners in a range
of age groups to even out the
competition. Cameron Nathan of
Wasm Springs was this year's overall
winner.
Runners from Warm Springs held
there own in several categories as
shown in the results that follow.
14.5 Mile Half-Marathon:
For the 14.5 mile half marathon
there were a total of 10 runners regis
tered (9 males 1 female). Cameron
Nathan of Warm Springs had the win
ning time of 1:54:54.

Simnasho
rodeo
action
The new Simnasho rodeo grounds
were the scene recently of the
Simnasho Jackpot Rodeo.
Events included the wildhorsc race
(photo at right), bronc riding, bare
back riding, barrcll racing and
breakaway roping.
There was also an endurance race,
wild cow milking and bull riding.
The new grounds, developed by
the members of the Simnasho com
munity, were dedicated as part of the
prc-rodco activities.
Results of the Simnasho Jackpot
Rodeo, which happened Saturday,
May 18, will be in the next edition of
the Spilyay Tymoo.

11, 12, at the Kah-Nee-Ta golf course.
Results of the tournament are fol
lowed. In "A" flight gross first place went
to Emerson Miller and Shauna
Queahpama 142, second place Jim
and Rita Smith 157, third place Bob
and Linda Brandow 162.
For "A" flight net there was a tie
for first place between Lauren and

Pi-Ume-Sha
tournament
June 29-30
The Pi-Ume-Sha slow-pitch All
Indian Softball Tournament is set for
June 29-30.
The event will happen at the Warm
Springs Community Center ball
fields.
The tournament will be 16 men's
true double elimination, and 16
women's true double elimination.
Entry fee is $275, with a $75 de
posit due by June 21. Payment can
be with cashier's check or money
orders payable to Sandra Greene
Sampson. First- and second-place winners
receive championship jackets. Third
place team members receive
sweatshirts, and fourth-place team
members receive t-shirts.
The tournament director is Jerry
Sampson, who can be reached at P.O.

OMSI's Salmon Camp Research
Team prograrn is still accepting appli
cations from interested Native Ameri
can high school students for our sum
mer of 2002 programs. Work in Cen
tral Oregon, Northern California, or
Western Washington with federal,
tribal, and state natural resource offi
cials. Training in various scientific
field techniques will be provided, as
well as intensive exposure to the wide
variety of natural resource manage
ment careers currently seeking Native
