After finishing last year at the state
3A tournament in Corvallis, the boys'
team lost some valuable players to
graduation. Which does not mean
that they will be starting over from
scratch. You can go as far to say that
they will be reloading.
This year's campaign began at
home on Nov. 27 as they opened the
season against the 4A Intcrmountain
Conference member Crook County
Cowboys.
After playing against each other in
practice, it was finally time to play
someone else. Crook County came
to Madras looking to improve on last
season's record. Madras was ready to
play against a 4A team, and to lay
claim for bragging rights for the
northern part of Central Oregon.
It was a high scoring game, with
neither team able to pull away. For
those who attended, they were treated
to a classic that ended in overtime.
Girls basketball team faces tough schedule
When we last saw the Madras
White Buffalo Girls Varsity Basket
ball team, they were receiving the sec
ond place trophy at Gill Coliseum in
Corvallis for the state 3A tourna
ment. This year's edition of the team will
again play for a berth in the state tour
nament. The team lost some players
to graduation, but they have some
capable players making the transition
from JV to Varsity to help fill the
void. The trail to return runs through
Tri-Valley league rival and defending
state and conference champion
Wilsonville. The girls have a formi
dable schedule to help them prepare
for league action.
Wrestling season begins this week
A winter sporting activity that
gets little press is wrestling.
The mat season begins on No
vember 30 in LaPine. There is a four
way varsity match that begins at 4
p.m.
On December. 5, Intermountain
