Back on
his feet for
holy-days
Hello from Pastor Rick,
Well, the reason you have not
heard from me or seen me is that I
had fKt surgery. And since 1 am large
person (Oh, yea), I have to stay off
my foot for a hit longer then most
folks.
So, what's up!
Ah, our Women's group will he
having their Christmas Bazaar and
food on Dec. 10. Check for the post
ers for the times.
Hey, this Sunday Dec. 2 is the he
ginning of the New Year in the Chris
tian Calendar. The Sundays before
Christmas arc called the season of Ad
vent. It means the "coming," or to
be aware of someone coining. Christ
Jesus' birthday is celebrated in De
cember. So we advent his birthday
and celebrated what his birth means
to us.
You know I am nearly 50 years old.
And as my people are Italian and Por
tuguese we have a trait of having some
hair. So as most of my hair turns
white including the hair from my cars
(The Creator has a sense of humor.)
I am asked from time to time to play
Santa. Christ Jesus is the reason for
the season. Christ Jesus, I lear is an
other great word for you "Christ." It
means Messiah, anointed one, the
moment. It means to us Chrisrians,
the decision of God to become one
of us to get the job done. That job is
to tell all of Creation that God is for
us and not against. And that God
wants a relationship with us.
You see, Christmas for a Christian
is a pretty deep thing. It means much
more that presents under a tree. It is
a great statement of the Ixvc of God
for us. So come to Church on Dec. 2
and celebrate Advent with us, with
Worship, communion, and a potluck
lunch. It's at 11 a.m. and we are on
the Campus. Also, we need someone
to play piano for us for Worship.
OK. Hug someone you love. Hug
someone you dislike. No alcohol or
tobacco for children. One day at a
time. Buckle up the kids and your
selves. Don't hit or beat on yourself.
Pay your bills before gambling, and
then stay home. Read the Bible for
it's effect on your heart. Pray to god
to the point of your hearing Him.
Honor someone each day. Love your
self. Like yourself. See you in church.

To the Editor: .
The family of Hester L Scott

enlisted in the Navy, and left home
on Oct. 17, 01 for her Basic Training

We also found out that Hester was

Knowledge
Hello I know I'm now mentally
smarter with the kind of traumatic
brain injury I have. I don't drink al
cohol no more, I'd like to sometimes,
but I remember what it did to me in
my past.
My mind and eyes are now focus
ing on Jesus Christ. I now know he
is my savior. I look at everything I
use to do but cannot do them no
more. I know and learned I can adapt
to the things I use to do. I've also
learned none of us human beings on
earth can go back into our past, cor
rect all the mistakes we made. ViTiat
happened, already happened we
should all look at today, move on for
ward, "One Day At A Time". I know
that can be hard for many for us, but
look at everything you can do now.
Adapt to life as it is. The world is
older then all of us here on earth. It
will change year by year.
I'm grateful; I'm a brain injured
sober recovery alcoholic survivor.
I'm now mentally smarter; I'm now
living in the real world.
I hope you all had a wonderful,
thankful Thanksgiving this year and
will be blessed for Christmas this

Apologies
To the Spilyay editor and the
people, to whom this may concern:
First of all I'd like to apologize to
Carol Craig for all the things that I
did to her property. I'd also like to
thank my family for all the positive
support that they gave me through
my good times and my bad times. I'd
like to thank the honorable Judge
Langlese for a fair judgment on my
court case. Because being incarcerated
in a 25x25 jail cell; it has given me all
the time in the world to think about
what I did wrongfully in the past.
It has made me realize about things
on the outside that we all take for
granted. Now I learned how to ap
preciate everything I have on the out
side. One example is freedom.
I can't say I'm sorry enough. But
truly I am sorry about everything I
did . I would also like to thank my
probation officer for motivating me
and doing it.
Last but least I'd like to thank my
mother Robin Mitchell and grand
mother Fay Waheneka for standing
behind me when I needed them be
hind me. But even though I'm still
in jail I'm sorry and thankful of oth
ers. Thanks!
Anthony Mitchell Jr.
Plea for great-grandson
My name is Maxine McKinley. I
live at Upper Dry Creek almost the
last house west.
I have a problem to present to my
fellow people, that have children go
ing to school on the bus along this
route.
My great grandson's name is
Maximino R. McKinnley. He is 10
years old and has been going to school
at Madras sine he was 4 years old.
When he was three the teachers from
E.C.E. went clear over to help him.
He did not know how to talk, cause
he is borderline autism, diagnosed by
a doctor in Bend. He moved to my
house about 4 vears ago and contin
ued to go to school at Madras Elemen
tary where he is receiving help.
My problem is: The children on
I k I 1 ft.

the bus tend to tease and upset him.
We had a hard time teaching him to
express his emqtions. He, sometimes
loses his temper, when provoked. But
that is not the issue. Last year he was
kicked off the bus because the chil
dren got too hostile with him when
they took his toys away from him. He
has to have something from home for
that feeling of security. They tore his
toys apart and to top it off he swung
his jacket and accidentally hit the bus
driver. So we had to drive him back
and forth to school, at own expense.
Now this year they took his advanced
Game Boy, which he got for a birth
day gift from home. We called the el
ementary school and they did track
it down. The boy who had it returned
it with no batteries, no game.
I want you parents to talk to your
children and have compassion for our
children who are handicapped. They
need to be made aware that all the
children are not the same. There are
many children who need this support
or understanding.
Thanks from club
The Madras High School Multi
Culture club would like to thank the
Kah-Nee-Ta Gift Shop and the Tribal
Administration for their item dona
tions. Last school year the Kah-Nee-Ta
Resort donated items that had a mis
print (Kay Nee Ta) and the Tribal
Administration donated a Warm
Springs Tribal flag. We would like you
to know what the Multi-Culture
Club did with the donated items.
Last spring we presented the Ma
dras High School with a tribal flag
donated by the Tribal Administra
tion, you will see the flag in the gym
it is located below the USA flag. We
conducted the ceremony with the WS
color guard and the Quartz Creek
drum, some of the KNT items were
part of the "give away."
This fall's progress report 63 Na
tive American Indian Month so we
had another "give away" to all stu
dents who received an "A" on their
report card, 28 additional students
collected a gift. The opportunity to
explain what a "give away" was and
personally congratulate each student
for his or her academic work was
made possible with KNTs donation.
Community involvement is at all lev
els, thank you for the flag and KNT
.1
items.
The Multi-Culture club is designed
to enrich cultures that exist in our
. community. , We have, two dance
teams established: first to get off the
ground is the Azteca dance and the
second in progress is the Native
American dance. The formation of
team development, school recogni

being presented to the mulu-cultural
group for possible inclusion. We have
plans; thank you for believing in us.

Complaint over CPS
I would like to take this time to
vent a few things about our
Children's Protective Services Pro
gram and how they are going about
finding placement for the children
that are being brought in to CPS. My
children were removed from my cus
tody in September of this year, and
placed in the Group Home. I know
that right now I do not have any say
so about where my children go, but I
do believe that my children have
rights under the Indian Child Welfare
Act.
All four of my children are in fos
ter homes, my two oldest are in Ma
dras and my two babies are in another,
so you see they were separated after
all. Before they were taken from my
custody, they were happy and smil
ing, talking and now they are a shell
of their former selves.
I cry when I think of my children
somewiiere else wanting to be home
and they can't because CPS isn't go
ing by their mission statement of re
uniting families sooner than later.
I miss my children and I know they
are hurting inside because I can see it
in their eyes.
I've been doing a lot of legwork to
get my case dismissed and to get these
four beautiful children back where
they belong, with me.
The Indian Child Welfare Act
helps to protect our children, when
are we going to start looking at our
system?
Thanks,
Michele Gonzales In behalf of
my children Renec, Tama, Michael,
and Alma
