E Coosb EEWA: The wy it is 4 Pqge 4 Spilyay Tymoo November 1, 2001 Spilyay Old year bucks and grinds to end Everything is coming to an end for the year 2001, as the New Year is just around the corner. The rodeo season is winding down all across the country where all the finals arc being held to deter mine the champions for the year. Rodeo, one of the roughest sports in the world, will be staring a new year, where all cowboys will be staring from scratch again. During the year they will be traveling all over the country making as many rodeos as they can. Trying to place in as many rodeos as they can, for each dollar they make is points toward the finals of each year. A cowboy will try to make as many rodeos as he can and most likely making at least two rodeos a weekend. In doing so he spends much time on the road traveling from one rodeo to another. As one drives the other sleeps until it is his turn to take the wheel. Sometimes eating bologna san's and potato chips. One day he may be in Oregon and the next Wash ington, Idaho, Nevada or California. It's a hurry, hurry, sport. While the local residents enjoy the weekend of fun and joy rides in the carnival and western dances, the rodeo minded cowboy is on the road. Rodeo is a sport where the cowboy is on his own. 1 le can make as many rodeos as he can and answers to no one. He pays his own way and if his is lucky he won't get hurt, that will set him back out of the competition. At one time it used to be when a cowboy won the Ail-Around Championship he would have to partici pate in as many events as he could and both rough stock and timed events. It depended on his ability to work on all events. Today it goes to the one who makes the most money. And the most money comes from the timed events like team roping and calf rop ing. The timed events draw more entries, which builds up the purse for the winner. Today competition is based on specialty events, where a cowboy usually goes for one or two events. In the rough stock competition means specialize in one event and he does a good job at it. There are a few that do more than one rough stock events like bare back and bull riding or and saddlebronc riding. There are a few who take in all the rough stock events, but majority of the contestants go for the timed events. It's a rough sport to follow, but once you get with it you will always be looking to the next rodeo to enter. New places, new faces, new bumps and bruises. But it's enjoyable. -Sid Miller Editor's Note Spilyay Tymoo welcomes letters from its readers. Because we are living in the end times, the storms of life are only going to get worse. We can see it with "America un der attack", wars and rumors of wars, thereat of deathly ill nesses etc. All of which the bible calls the beginning of birth pains-Matthew 24:8. With much love, Pastor Billy Joe Given to the law The family of Jefferson Greene would like to take this opportunity to let each and every person know that we, including Jefferson, want no retaliation, fighting or harass ment on behalf of Jefferson. We have given this situation to the law in hopes that Jus tice Will Be Done and to the Great Creator that He will bring peace and unity to our nation. We have faith in the Great Creator and in the Judicial Sys tem, that the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will do the best job of seeing that justice will be done. So, again the family ask that any vengeance regarding the incident of Oct. 12, 2001, is to be stopped right here and now, and to be left to the law en forcement and Great Creator. The family would like to Put an end to the hitting and Hello from Pastor Rick, Stop The Violence. Enough Is Enough. To attack someone with a knife, gun or fists; to attack yourself with a weapon must stop. Our Creator, Christ Jesus, gave us a great tool to stop the violence. It is called commu nication. Talk to someone. Talking through a cloud of beer in your head does not work. Talking about life, about your dreams, about your plans for life is a great thing. Do it When you talk you discover the truth about who you are and what you have in life. You will discover the great est trust that God has given to us. thank the parents, students, friends and family for the prayers, calls, cards and flow ers. Or arc we guilty first and fore most and then, if we arc given our due process, found inno cent? Are wc found innocent in public, but in reality still guilty in the back of their minds? I heard of an article being cir culated with the names of my boyfriend F.duardo, my mother and a family friend being slan dered! We were already being called people that they called us by the editor of this newsletter. We have not yet been found guilty in a court of law, yet they have the gall to put our names in the newsletter. Why did they not print everyone's name that has gotten charged with said charges, and not just the ones who they pick and choose to? I did not give my written or verbal permission for them to print my name and nei ther did the others. Not all of the people named were charged, they only took my mother in "for questioning," and then released her because she was not named in the affida vit or search warrant. I would like to clarify that for the editor of the newsletter. I feel that if I win my case, which I feel I can, then I may not have a chance to get a job in Warm Springs due to the fact that potential employers (if there were any in the first place) may not want to hire me because of the defamation of my character. I would not recommend be lieving the newsletter until you know for sure or actually ask me about it I do not want my chil li dren or Eduardo's children be ' ing embarrassed by the newslet ' ter or people talking about how we went to jail. They do not deserve it. I am choosing to fight these "very thorough" people, because from what I read and have re ceived from them, they do not have enough evidence, and I will , prove that. On a different note: I was told by someone who knows a lot about the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction, and who helped me learn a lot about myself, "To not close the door on the past, always remember where you came from" because a lot of people have skeletons in their closets that they are not willing to disclose, not even to themselves, so don't look down We are created for the pur pose of loving and being loved. No, not just sex. The kind of love that lets people take care of each other. Of work ing together. Of supporting each other. These are the things we must do to get ourselves into heaven. For loving and being loved is what heaven is all about in the presence of God. Stop The Violence. Now for the lighter side... You know you live in Cen tral Oregon when: "Vacation" means going to Portland for the weekend. You measure distance in hours. You know several people it others when you may have done the very same thing your self, way back in the day, but just don't want to admit it. Thank you for your time and consideration. Michclc Gonzalez Sovereignty This is in response to letter sent to Spilyay Tymoo written by Daphne Cascade of Madras, regarding Warm Springs Sover eignty. First of all, she should under stand wc have Sovereignty Rights agreed to by a treaty signed by the United States Gov ernment and the people of Warm Springs, Reservation. Wc arc regarded as a nation within a nation. We are given the same accord as would be given to Ja pan, Great Britain or Russia. We have the right to govern our people without outside interfer ence. All dealings between Jef ferson County, the state of Or egon and the United States with Warm Springs, Reservation is on a govcrnmcnt-to-govcrnmcnt basis. This Treaty was signed some years before Oregon became a state. The Original Treaty would have bordered on the north by the Columbia River, and just below present day Bend would have been the southern border, to the Cascade Moun tain to the west, and the Blue Mountains to the cast. But U.S. Government treatise with the Tribes again for what is our present reservation, with certain rights on ceded land upon which you live. Daphne Cascade believes that we should give up our Sover eignty to have better lives. She listed bad things that she believes are caused by our Sovereignty. You, Daphne Cascade live in Madras where drug abuse and sales are equal to, if not higher than here. Your community is equal or higher in alcohol abuse and children in your commu nity are running around break ing and entering, vandalizing, abusing one another and disre specting their own community (look at all the graffiti). So just read your own Madras Pioneer and you will see what's happen ing also when you get away from main streets of Madras and you will find homes in disrepair and broken down or abandoned ve hicles. I suggest Daphne Cascade take of her rose colored glasses and see what's going on in her own community, instead of try ing to take away our right to be a Sovereign Nation. Signed, G.T. Chase Thanks amid sorrow First I would like to thank the Spilyay Tymoo for allowing me to thank so many of you, through this publication.
