A U Warriors Society Memorial
Veteran's Corner
The House unanimously en
dorsed one of the biggest increases
for a Program that has helped mil
lions of Veterans get college educa
tions since the end of World War II.
Under the legislation education
benefits available to a veteran with
three years service would increase
over the next three years from the
current $650 a month to $1,100.
For veterans with two years of
services or reservists, the maximum
benefits would go up from $528 to
$894. This is a big boost for the vet
erans who wish to further their edu
cation.
Selective Services adds
page to Web.
The selective service has added a
change of address page to its Website
that will allow young men to update
their registration information on
line. '
Any man who is registered and
was born after 1959 can update his
address information by connecting
to the Selective Service Web site at
WWW.SSS.gov.
All young men, ages 18 through
25 must notify Selective Services
within 10 days of an address change.
Federal Law requires virtually all
men to register with Selective Ser
vice within 30 days of tuning 18.
All U.S. male citiens, no matter
where they live, as well as male non
citizens, residing in the United
States, are required to register.
Although the United States relies
on all-volunteer military, remains
intact to ensure the draft could be
reinstated quickly.

Tips on choosing safe fireworks
It is extremely important to know the difference between a le
gal consumer firework and a dangerous explosive device. Items such
as M-80s, M-lOOs and blockbusters are not fireworks, they are fed
erally banned explosives. They can cause serious injury or even
death. Stay away from anything that isn't clearly labeled with the
name of the item, the manufacturer's name and instructions for
proper use. Here are some more tips to help ensure a safe Fourth
of July:
Fireworks are not toys.
NEVER give fireworks to young children. Close, adult super
vision of all fireworks activities is mandatory. Even sparklers can
be unsafe if used improperly.
Select and use only legal devices.
Stay away from illegal explosives
Homemade fireworks are deadly. Never attempt to make your
own devices and do not purchase or use any kits that are adver
tised for making fireworks. Mixing and loading chemical powders
is very dangerous and can kill or seriously injure you. Leave the
making of fireworks to the experts.

In Memory Of Joe R. Carilla
5-10-29
November 1979 Joe moved, with
his companion Esther, to Warm
Springs. Joe is best remembered for
his walking; he was an employee at
Kah-Nee-Ta until he retired. He was
a member of the 1910 Shaker
Church. We remember Joe at home,
he could make you laugh and he
could speak and understand
Sahaptian. He took pride in his
lawn, a love for animals; he had a
Shaka, LaPooch, and China. He
could mechanic his car and it was
shiny clean. Joe will be missed as he
went to be with God on May 19,
2001.
