The Warm Springs Language Program
is very proud the Warm Springs Elementary
School students and the Kiksht home base
language learners for their efforts to share
what they have learned during their school
year. The Kiksht Home Base Language
Learners welcomed the National Radio
Summit visitors with the Welcome Dance,
speeches in the Kiksht Language, and
blessed them with a prayer song.
The children were admired for their
participation at the Honor Seniors day and
were invited to participate in the two local
events. Gladys Thompson and Madeline
Mclnturff the two Wasco Elder Teachers
were in attendance to support the children
and provide encouragement for their stu
dents. Deanie Johnson and Valerie Switzler,
the Kiksht student teachers attended the

conference in an effort to showcase the
children's knowledge. The children are
learning in the language, social dances and
songs of the Wasco people. Irene Thomp
son, Larson Kalama, Joann Smith, and
Tommy Kalama were on hand to honor the
children's efforts by dancing with them.
Kindergarten teachers, Arlene Graham and
Wauna Calica also joined their children in
song and dance. I don't think any two
teachers were more proud than they were.
Many thanks to those who helped sing;
Rudy Clements, Adeline Miller, MaryAnn
Meanus, and Wilson Wewa. Without people
like these and the teachers who share un
conditionally with the children, we wouldn't
able to share back to the community.

The Agency Longhouse had many visi
tors from across the nation and with many
children in attendance and their involvement
was encouraged by the WSE children, no
one was turned away, so some of the chil
dren danced the Welcome Dance, Yupai,
Skip and Going out Dance for the first time
that evening. Male volunteers were brought
out for the young ladies as dancing partners
