On Patrol
SuYenn Smith
Happy Holidays! to the commu
nity of Warm Springs, my name is
SuYenn Smith. I am 24-years-old and
an enrolled member of the Confeder
ated Tribes of Warm Springs. I am
of Wasco, Yakama, KlamathModoc,
and Tualip desent. My parents are
Alvis & Sissy (Wilson) Smith Jr. of
Warm Springs. My grandparents are
Alvis Smith Sr., and the late Ramona
Wilson ofSprague River, Ore. I have
one brother, Alvis Smith III and one
sister Mona (Smith) Strong. I have a
son, Martin Smith-Mennealy, a third
grader at the Warm Springs Elemen- .
tary School.
I have been employed with the
Warm Springs Police Department
since October of 1998 with a recent ,
transfer into the Acting Support Ser
vices Supervisor. I have worked in
several divisions within the depart
ment, which includes: Telecommu
nications, Police Administration, and '
the Investigations Division as part of
the Support Staff. I have enjoyed
working with the Branch for the past
two years and appreciate the services
that they provide to our community
as a whole. I have had the pleasure ,
in working with a new upper man
agement staff and now understand the
work and hours put into developing

a safer environment for not only the
community members but the visitors
to our area as well.
My goal, as the Acting Support
Services Supervisor, include the de
velopment of our department into a
more community orientated office,
where the client andor visitor feels
that they are getting the best services
that our department can provide them
with.
I would like to say thank you to
the community and hope you have a
safe and happy holiday.
On Patrol
With the Christmas Holiday just
around the corner, the police depart
ment would like to remind everyone
not to drink and drive. The life you
save could be your own or a loved
one. While traveling, please make
sure all seat belts are fastened and
make sure you watch out for the other
guy. Be careful on all slick roads es
pecially when making a sudden stop.
Also while traveling, carry tire chains,
blankets, a shovel, snacks, and a flash
light. Community Policing
The Warm Springs Community
Oriented Policing Services would like
to remind Christmas shoppers to
cover up the things they buy, make
sure your vehicle is locked and un
der a well lighted area before enter
ing another store. When your gifts are
safe at home and under the Christmas
tree, make sure your windows and
doors are locked if you plan to take a
quick trip to the store or just to visit.
Have your neighbor's keep an eye on
your house, or keep your mean dog
in doors until you return. Remember
that there are those GRINCH types
out there who do their shopping by
breaking into homes.
Holidays are special, remember
to spend time with members of the
family, say something nice to every
one you meet in passing. The joy you
spread in doing so goes a long way.
In these times of hurry here, hurry
there, rush, rush, we often forget to
say a simple thank you or even give
an "Old Fashioned Christmas Greet:
ing". Remember those people who
are gone away in the service or in
school, or in some other manner are
not here with you and think of them
for a moment as you are busy getting
things done. Years ago our commu
nity used to re
al' work to get
everyone to
gether for a
"Community
Tree". Every
one came, had
fun, shared,
gave, laughed,
ate a little, then
went on home
with the Christ
mas spirit
heavy in mind.
Make the most
of the season
everyone, have
a very Merry Christmas to each ana
every one of you.
The First Time Ever the Community Policing Department will hold a toy drive for needy
families. This will be an annual event.
